United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Santorini Black

Risk of death starts rising at 50 - 59 doubles in 60 - 69 age group doubles again in 70 - 79 and again in 80 - 89 age groups
In this latter group the rate is around 15%

More men than women die and most will have underlying health issues in particular heart, lung, diabetes, compromised immune system, all rather more common in older people.

The latest figures are on a numberr of sites (look for death rate for coronvirus by age).

Figures appear to rely on Chinese experience but this is the largest group so far!

As mentioned earlier, businesses will use it as a convenient excuse to mask poor management performance.

The collapse of FlyBe (who have been in trouble for well over a year) and the Directors blaming "coronavirus" is a case in point.

Expect many more "merchant bankers" to follow the same blame culture...

Of course the business was struggling, it made no secret of that, but an overnight collapse in their order book finally pushed them over the edge.

With 2,000 people now out of work, a lot of businesses facing bad debt and a useful and unique service now lost, I don’t think it’s helpful to make sweeping generalisations like this for political point scoring.

Goodness me, I don't know whether you are really that naieve or just trying to get a rise out of people. I note that you contradict many on here with your viewpoint, then stifle debate and take the subject completely off topic, trying to provoke reactions.

Earlier up in this thread, you asked what point I was trying to make re: coronavirus being trotted out as an excuse for poor management. I gave you credible evidence, as only this morning the directors of FlyBe used it as a pathetic and flimsy excuse to wrap the business up. Plenty more will follow their lead - get in the real world.

Their order book didn't dry up overnight - what utter rubbish! Where did you get this "credible information" from? Are you part of their "inner circle" down there? Further, who is politically point scoring here? I'm not remotely political - I was citing reported FACT across all media outlets most of today and not fiction, unlike you. It's not everyday that I concur with Michael O'Leary, but on this whole business, I really do. Get some perspective on it, and go and pick a fight with someone else that gives a toss - with all respect, you live in cloud-cuckoo land if you really think that, as nobody can be that ignorant, surely?

Monty Python bring out your dead

MORTICIAN: Bring out your dead! Bring out your dead! [clang] Bring out your dead! [clang] Bring out your dead! [clang] Bring out your dead![ clang] Bring out your dead!

CUSTOMER: Here's one -- nine pence.

DEADPERSON: I'm not dead!

MORTICIAN: What?

CUSTOMER: Nothing -- here's your nine pence.

DEAD PERSON: I'm not dead!

MORTICIAN: Here -- he says he's not dead!

CUSTOMER: Yes, he is.

DEADPERSON: I'm not!

MORTICIAN: He isn't.

CUSTOMER: Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.

DEADPERSON: I'm getting better!

CUSTOMER: No, you're not -- you'll be stone dead in a moment.

MORTICIAN: Oh, I can't take him like that -- it's against regulations.

DEAD PERSON: I don't want to go in the cart!

CUSTOMER: Oh, don't be such a baby.

MORTICIAN: I can't take him...

DEAD PERSON: I feel fine!

CUSTOMER: Oh, do us a favor...

MORTICIAN: I can't.

CUSTOMER: Well, can you hang around a couple of minutes? He won't be long.

MORTICIAN: Naaah, I got to go on to Robinson's -- they've lost nine today.

CUSTOMER: Well, when is your next round?

MORTICIAN: Thursday.

DEADPERSON: I think I'll go for a walk.

CUSTOMER: You're not fooling anyone y'know. Look, isn't there something you can do?

DEAD PERSON: I feel happy... I feel happy. [whop]

CUSTOMER: Ah, thanks very much.

MORTICIAN: Not at all. See you on Thursday.

CUSTOMER: Right. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Sorry! but it's not too bad in truth Even amongst people 80 - 90yrs old at least 85% of those becoming infected will survive as Prof Whitty was at pains to point out today.

Worth avoiding though if you can, I'm guessing it's not a pleasant experience if you are one of those who become seriously ill

Or you could be 60 with a quintuple heart bypass, and have a wife who is 55, on chemo and no hope of beating the cancer this time. Now that's what I call high risk.

Hardly elderly, but still Censored scared of catching old fashioned flu, let alone this new version with no "flu jab" to give some protection. What are we supposed to do - self isolate until the summer, difficult if you have to work, or go to hospital every three weeks Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

I'm really sorry to hear of your situation and agree that's a crap position to be in and needs maximum thought and effort to avoid this virus for sure.

I myself belong to a small group of friends who between us have 2 with heart conditions, one of whom is recovering from bypass surgery 3 months ago, 1 with diabetes, 3 with cancer (two of whom are currently in treatment, chemo and RT) and myself am 70yr old with a compromised immune system and other issues. the last member of the group who is the healthiest is a 78 yr old in remission following surgery for bowel cancer almost a year ago. I don't think any of of us amongst this group of four couples are in such a serious position as you and wife but we all share both your and your wife's awful dilemma and are all weighing up our chances of surviving infection and trying to decide what decisions / choices we will / ought to take over the coming months.

I won't be using public transport or going to any events indoors or in crowds. I will certainly be washing my hands frequently and will be looking askance at the plague factory that masquerades as my 2yr old grand son who permanently looks and sounds as if he could be a Covid 19 victim ever since he started at nursery.

Good luck to you and your wife and to all other vulnerable members on here
