In the Birmingham case, the 'fuelers', had a notice which indicated for what purpose the Red could be used.
The buyers were filling 'illegal' 10gallon multiple containers, not their vehicles, and decanting it into road use vehicles. HMRC confiscated the vehicles which contained Red.

Yes I saw that piece on TV......and I believe the guy in charge of the garage was actually a contestant on Dragon’s Den show.......well he is an entrepreneur  Regards

Yes, that’s what HMRC would want you to believe

The authorities have started using Mobile GC units, along with the diazo dye, tribenzene is added which is detectable regardless of efforts to strip the dye away. Regards

The problem up here with "red neckers" is that virtually EVERY fuel station in the Midlands is owned/managed/run by....ahem.....a certain "ker-mooonityyy", who turn a blind eye to all their cousins uncles father brothers nephews that all also own "Johnny Bad-cab" businesses.....well, the blind eye usually comes in exchange for a few quid, but you get the picture.

The daughters are usually found at DWP Offices all over the midlands doing an almost identical thing with the allocation of funds from the benefits system."

Anyway, I digress.......I'm very pleased with my Disco Sport. No oil dilution issues for me.....

I worked for 12 months at a homeless hostel . One Asian guy there told us how he was asked for a £5000 bung to get him and his family on the top of the housing list for a 3 bedroom house, or stay in the one bedroom flat he had been in for the last 5 years. He was going mad to us about how Asians are in those kind of jobs and even on their own kind where money is concerned.

back on track on FL2 alternatives.

my daughter is in the market for a slightly bigger car to replace her 3 door 1 series, as she now has a very leggy Colly to put in the boot and wants something more SUV like.

Unfortunately she is currently wearing a temporary hospital boot due to stress fracture in her foot, so I got called upon to test drive a potential replacement for her.

She chose a 2 year old Seat Ateca 1.6 Tdi SE Tech.

I have to say a very nice car to drive and enough power to get going away from the lights and overtaking. Plenty of kit including LED lights, LED cornering/fog lights and in fact every exterior light is LED. A very good infotainment screen with Apple and Android car, plus screen mirroring, Nav etc etc. Changeable driving modes (Eco, Normal, Sport). The only thing it lacked IMO was auto lights and wipers, and my 6'2'' frame felt too high but fine for my 5'9'' daughter. Good sized boot too with a space saver.

All that, with 1 year Seat warranty remaining, for 15k, so she needs to decide to go for it or not.... try getting a 2 year old LR for anything close to that

the Seat is NOT a VW

but to be fair the fit and finish and build quality did seem very good. Although the car was only 2 years old with 20k on the clock

A lot of the SEAT are made in the same lines as VW models.

Seriously where do we go when the Freelander's time is up. You need to be a brave man/women to commit the thick end of £40k for a DS with all the problems associated with oil dilution and other serious issues (you can now get nearly 20% discount via drivethedeal). Volvo XC60 and XC 40 look ok as does the latest Tiguan but outwith them I struggle to think of a suitable alternative.

I said up-thread that Skoda seem to have upped their game and as I'm in Gloucester this Friday, near a Skoda dealership, will have a play with the Karoq and Kodiaq. Will report back but would say the Karoq Sportline 190bhp petrol 4x4 ticks lots of boxes. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.
