United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver

The Missus had a very serious smash in her Jaguar F-Pace on a main road close to home yesterday... the car is destroyed but did its job well as she's limped away rather than worse, thanks to all the airbags and crumple zones... I couldn't believe the damage when I saw it after, but I got back in to my Freelander 2 to bring her back from A&E and thought to myself... Bigger is safer...

FL2 is a good, strong car and whether I move on from this one in a year or two or not, I'll be staying in this type/size of car for sure... even an electric one... we also have an XK8 which I've just fired up this morning for her to use and took it for a run, it's a lovely car in some ways but somehow I just don't feel so safe scraping my BTM down the road in it... it's also cramped inside after the Freelander 2 interior, and that is what put she and I off the DS/Ewok and why she went F-Pace last year... it's more akin to FL2 for interior space as well... so we will replace the F-Pace with another, easy choice for us...

One day I might consider something else, preferably from the green-oval family and that I won't be disappointed with the choices when the time comes... hopefully that's a good two years hence for me... Lexus RX450H - 500 mile a week commuter- I just couldn’t trust in a newer RRS or DS for that….
2009 Freelander 2 HSE... 155K miles, we’ve done 135k of those, has done brilliantly on the commute and staying firmly put as car two in the household
2002 Jaguar XK8 Coupe... fun, fast, ours for 12 years and owes us nothing - so staying with us too…

I don't get why people are swapping to petrol, when all petrol, diesel and hybrids will not be available to buy new from 2030.
Unless you have to drive in city centres, diesel is still the best option for longer distance motoring.

For me the problem with diesel going forward is that euro 6 is so difficult to achieve that we are now seeing the DPF/oil dilution problems which at best require more oil changes and at worst require a new engine or replace balance shafts. A number of other manufacturers are having the same problem and Euro 7 will probably be impossible without electric assistance. DPF problems are also not covered by extended warranty. Yes I know that mpg is lower but the fuel is slightly cheaper and the service intervals will be longer but it looks to me as if petrol engines are simpler, easier to control and need fewer sensors so less to go wrong. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Glad to hear your lady is fine if shaken, nasty business big RTAs.....we looked at the new F-Pace when it was first being launched but dismissed it as it felt like a saloon car inside, in as much as it cocooned you rather than had space ar9und the occupants.

Bigger is better, if your going to hit something make sure it’s smaller than you.....works on the road as well as in the pub! Laughing Regards

Well I don’t care what the mechanical bits are, as long as they work.
Just couldn’t find anything close as far as comfort and finish

What else is as comfy as my FREELANDER? Very Happy

Skoda certainly seem to be upping their game. Followed a Karoq today and it looks the part - not in fl2 class but in 4 wheel drive and 190bhp could be in the mix when the time comes.
Most reviews are extremely positive. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.
