Decision time approaches

My LR approved used warranty runs out at the end of March and I have just had the renewal paperwork arrive. So it's £1k to keep this one or £1k towards a replacement. Hmm

Full Extended Warranty £795 or with LR Assist £945 payable with 10 monthly installments
Select Extended Warranty £505 or with LR Assist £650 payable with 10 monthly installments

Question is what would you replace it with ? DS ? or Ewok? or go bigger with D5, RRS, FFRR ??

If your happy with your FL2 then why not keep it for the 1k ?

Ditto. Common sense isn't very common.

Assuming I had the cash and I was happy with the car, I would renew the warranty. A new car is going to cost more, and you may not like it as much as the FL2. I went through the same dilema a few years ago and decided to keep the car. Work has needed doing but I've still got my FL2 ❤️

Or you could risk it and just not renew the warranty. You may not need it.

*Edit* I'm assuming the car is fully paid for. If it's still on any form of finance I'd get rid and get a new car. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

Mine is at the next decision stage. Just over 10 years old @ 95,000 miles. I took the full extended warranty from when I bought it at 4 1/2 years old, 47,000 miles. The warranty has been useful, taking away any worries when @ Duckworths for annual services. Transmission software issues, crank oil leak at timing end (new cam belt inc), diff pinion bearing to name but a few. I intend to keep it and use a local garage (not specialist but owner is LR enthusiast). The car is worth more to me than what I would get on a part ex, so here goes! 🤞🤞🤞 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

My warranty ran out at the beginning of December 2019... never even used it Rolling Eyes
So if it breaks now i will have it fixed, I think it makes more sense to put £20 a week in a jar and if in that year you dont have any problems you will be a £1000 better off but if it does break you have the cash to repair it, If you were to pay for a warranty upfront they will keep your money even if you dont make any claims...Stealers Censored 94 Disco 300 TDI Gone

If PM Boris really wants to help me go green by buying me a Jaguar I-Pace that will be good, otherwise I will continue on in my FL2, AND pay up for a LR Warranty, which gives me peace of mind.

If you have not used the warranty I would not bother renewing it.

Your profile I think said 54k miles on a 2014 model, which sounds to me like you don't do many miles,
which to me would mean a warranty is a waste of money.

Just keep the FL2 if you are happy with it.

When we bought our 13 yr old i6 almost a year ago I pondered warranties and then found an AA deal for £230, they did a breakdown warranty up to £500 per claim (I think four in a year) and roadside recovery/assistance thrown in, I thought it a good, package and worth it with a 13 yr old Land Rover Rolling with laughter Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

Difficult one to call. Head has to rule heart on this ultimately, and it depends on your individual circumstances.

For me, the creeping increase in VED, plus the fact that it was approaching a big service, and coupled with the fact that my journey pattern had changed significantly forced my hand.

Easily the best vehicle that I have ever owned, and was very sad to see it drive away to begin its retirement recently....it all boils down to what is right for you at this given point in time. Nobody knows what successive Governments have in store for us dirty diesel drivers, but rest assured that the tax that we pay on them will only ever go northwards.

Incidentally, the fUll LR Warranty with Assist for your Freelander is higher than for a 4 year old Disco Sport, which is £820/annum! Presumably the difference in age is the reason for this...?

The plot thickens. I was toying with the idea of a DS hybrid which is rumoured to be coming out later this year but with yesterday's announcement I won't bother now and LR might decide to drop the model anyway.

Today's Financial Times
The UK government’s new target to ban the sale of petrol, diesel and hybrid cars by 2035 has been slammed as unworkable by the auto industry, which warned it would lead consumers to hold on to polluting cars for longer.

Ministers had previously set a target to phase out “traditional” petrol and diesel sales by 2040, which excluded some hybrid cars that use both engines and batteries.

But the move to bring forward the ban by five years — part of a broad package to reduce the UK’s emissions to net zero by 2050 — and extend it to all hybrid cars would outlaw 98 per cent of vehicles currently on sale, forcing consumers and businesses to buy electric or hydrogen powered cars.

I will be 87 by 2035 (if I get that far) I would only replace mine with a Metropolis. At only 5,000 miles pa it is not worth it. So I will run mine until it fails completely then buy a little grandad’s car if I am still safe to drive.
