England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Orkney Grey
Tread depth question.

Hi, I'm new here and I'm looking forward to picking up a nice low mileage 2011 XS at the weekend, what I would like to know please is, is it critical to keep the tyre tread depth to within a couple of mm of each other, I have a F25 X3 & they are very fussy about tread depth variation especially on the same axle. Thanks very much for any info on this subject. Cliff. Sorry this should be in the Tyre section & I think Ive seen my answer.

No it is not critical to keep all four tyres at approximately same tread depth but when changing tyres replace as pairs ie front or rear same time, that’s the advice the main dealer technician gave me when I replaced my tyres also they put the new tyres on the rear thus putting my half worn tyres on the front.

With a Freelander 1 it was very critical to keep all 4 tyres close to each other, but this is not as much of an issue with a Freelander 2 due to changes in the drive train. MY13 HSE Lux Santorini Black Gone

Has anyone done or seen a survey on FL2 tyre history prior to early worn diff or transfer gearbox? ie are there many members who have experienced early transmission bearing wear on FL2 with matching tyres / tyre wear since new and driven mainly on road?
