So that's what the tiny allen key in the box is for Laughing That little screw (un)locks the collar allowing it to rotate. I've got both of mine pointing upwards now and this is the beam pattern without any adjustment...

You look to have decent spread there. Not sure I have as much ‘out the sides’

I'm not sure if mine is a little high... ideally would have done a "before" with the old bulbs for comparison.

Glad you're seeing good results too guys. Yep, I fitted mine with both LED chips pointing up at 10 and 2. Handily this means the cable from the back of the bulb is pointing straight down, which makes checking the adjustment easy.

The tiny Allen key that comes in the box is for the little grub screw in the bulb housing, as you can adjust/rotate the collar to ensure correct orientation.

Blown yet another HB3 bulb today - irritating to say the least as we dont even do that much night driving in it these days.

So I've now ordered a set of the LEDS too - thanks @ Mattmjones Jules

Well after this evening's journey down dark windy overgrown lanes, I only wish I'd fitted something like these sooner!

I need to get the adjustment checked to be sure they're not massively out (I think they're a little high but that might be me) but I can't believe how much of an improvement they are.

Coming from previous cars with xenon headlights I despised the headlights on the Freelander 2 when I bought it; despite upgrading to decent regular bulbs. Now these aren't as good as xenons - don't buy them thinking they are - but they're definitely worth the cost for the improvement. Let's see if they last!

Finally took delivery of a set of these bulbs after the courier lost the first set. Fairly simple installation with a bit of adjusting of the collar to get the LED chips pointing in the 10 to 2 positions for optimum light output and correct beam pattern.
My opinion of these bulbs are that they're a great improvement over halogen bulbs for dipped beam (my car is MY13) as they provide a much brighter and whiter light directly in front of you, which provides plenty of brightness to still see the road when another car with xenons or LED's is blinding you coming the opposite way down a narrow country lane. The only down side in my opinion is that they lack the distance that the halogens had (I was using Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited before) but I feel this is far out weighed by the improved dipped beam performance and longevity of the bulb. I can finally leave the auto headlight function on without fear of blowing bulbs on a regular basis. Freelander 2 XS 2013

thanks for all the info and advice
i have just ordered a pair of these LED projector specific HB3s
i currently have Osram nightbreakers in and so far ( 2 months ) no blowing problems so i wonder if my car is OK re resisitors etc
really want to add distance to my lights so a little disappointed that with your comments about main beam but will have to wait and see
my Freelander is a brilliant car ( 2013 SD4 XS 18" wheels ) with just one disappointment - the pathetic halogen HB3s. What were LR thinking about when they replaced the seperate main beam bulb with the DLR stylised circular LED ! When they did that all models should have had HIDs fitted but i guess the bean counters got involved. By all accounts they continued this nonsense on the Evoque and Discovery Sport. My Defender ( 90 county SW 2013 Puma ) has better lights now i have put Phillips upgrades into the Wipac H4 halogen set up and that was introduced before the turn of the century
will post an update when i see how they perform FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

I saw the eBay link at the top of this thread for 4 x LED H7s

I contacted the vendor, asking if they did indeed fit. I also asked if customer feedback confirmed good dip cut off and beam pattern. They replied requesting photos of my bulb installation which I provided. On receipt of these they confirmed they fit. They did not furnish any details of dip cut off or beam pattern. I asked for this again, but the answer was unclear. (I am assuming English is not their first language!) I ordered a set, resolving to try for myself. They arrived today. The LED bulb fits the headlamp aperture. The car electrical connector fits the LED lamp fly lead. However, as the FL2 electrical connector doubles as the spring clip bulb retainer, there is no retention for the LED lamp!

I have just messaged them as above and await their return instructions!

Agree with comments on long range. I wonder if this is due to no downwards pointing led in the projector.

If it's of any interest to anybody I compared my new LED bulbs to an Audi A4 MY66 with factory LED headlights when parked side by side, pointing at a wall two car lengths away. (Disclaimer all results are judged by my eye so may not be factually correct). What I noticed was the white balance (kelvin) was basically identical but more importantly I felt my bulbs were slightly brighter both on the ground and up against the wall. Beam patterns were also very similar with a clear cut off along the top edge. Freelander 2 XS 2013

Need to carry a spare set of bulbs for overseas use, assume there'll be suitable for my 63 plate?

The poor long range on high means I’ve sent mine back. Wasn’t ok for my use! I’m going to try some osram nightbreaker laser’s. I’ve also contacted horizon LED’s to see what led config they’d recommend.
