2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Sumatra Black

lifter rattle or not

2011 fl2 cd 184000 miles
Hi, got a rattle when started from cold, disappears at 1100 revs and gone altogether when warmed up, comes from top left of engine (looking from front)
I think is possibly a hydraulic lifter, what do you all think.

There is a chain between the two camshafts. Could also be the timing chain / timing chain tensioner.

Cheers Alex, cant understand why it goes when the oil gets warmer, thinner, I thought if it were the chain it would be quieter when cold. Dose this engine have hydraulic lifters?

If they have lifters can they be changed without removing the cam shafts?

No, the rockers, valves and hydraulic lifters are below the camshafts...
Take the service manual from here on the General section and study it a little...
