Those flex is are the same ones used on other vehicles from the same supplier, we tested those in hot salt spray booths and shake rigs for a 150K mile cycle, unless they had a manufacturing fault from new (or over stressed in service) they should be good. Regards

Awkward was trying really hard not to laugh when the dealership tries to stick me for $105 for the forward gaskets. Each. 2008 US LR2 SE, 6-cyl gas |

Ok, in the end I picked up a new assembly from Muffler Express in Canada, $322 with a one year warranty and the military discount. I don't need the front gaskets 'cause those just get new sealant and the manual doesn't say they need to be replaced. The rear gasket does need to be replaced, $6 at the dealer, and the nuts to secure it to the muffler side of the flange also need to be replaced, another $6. That and some labor and I'm all set. Now I cross my fingers and hope the sensors come off in one piece.

It's here! Now to see how much local mechanics will want to fleece off me to remove the old one and install it. I don't have the lift and necessary tools to deal with things like very corroded nuts and studs...

Well, that's the only way to get to it. But they have to blast the corroded hardware to get it off, and I'm hoping the sensors come out intact. 2008 US LR2 SE, 6-cyl gas |

All done. I managed to keep it all under $700 including the cost of the catalytic converter/flexible pipe assembly. I did not own this car before it had this problem, so I don't know what's normal, but the difference now is very noticeable. I guess this car has a throaty exhaust sound in the first place. Now on to the other things that need to get done.... 2008 US LR2 SE, 6-cyl gas |
