Canada 2013 LR2 2.0T HSE Auto Firenze Red

Ok, I’ll chime in... driven the new models as loaners when either the XKR or LR2 were in for service.
When I when getting the new engine in the LR2, had the disco for nearly a month. In the winter/spring.
And there is much I like about the new gadgetry. and the comfort ability.
But it just seems so ‘delicate’ in comparison to the LR2.

I feel confident taking the LR2 out in any weather condition and on any path. (And I do). Can’t say I feel the same about the disco.
Love to stay and chat but I need to head out for some night skiing in the LR2 in the back 40 of Quebec. Wink Guy Pensa

FL2 is better off-road - the DS suffers from poor ground clearance. I also felt that the paint on the FL2 was more resilient - neither of mine scratched noticeably, but the DS definitely got scuffed.
DS is a nicer car to drive, and I felt much more stable at speed.
You can't retrofit a spare wheel to a 7-seater DS (unless you take out the seats, which is a bit of a job and needs you to fabricate a new floor panel)
I personally would go for the Ingenium, and change the oil every year. The 2.2 will soon be banned from London and possibly other cities, here and abroad.
I would not go back to the FL2 - it would feel really dated now. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I think reading everything that has been written I’ll stick with the freelander. I actually quite like It’s no nonsense simplicity and the fact it is “dated” compared to the latest 4x4s.

There is something to be said for sticking to "older" technology.
All of the independent LR garages will have got to grips with the FL2 foibles by now, diagnostics are readily available, and parts will be "relatively" cheap - it is a LR after all.

The DS has lots of lovely toys, all of which will need fixing in later years, do you really want to be the one that the independents are cutting their teeth on? Obviously I do Shocked



Speaking of relatively cheap, Gills MG3 needed a new alloy and tyre - £90 delivered from the dealer. I am the one having to explain tyres (without wheels) at £180 each for LR Embarassed Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

The problem is that any vehicle that can be fixed with a hammer and adjustable spanner is a polluter, and will eventually be forced to the scrapyard, even in the third world. The idea of travelling in the bush or veldt with an electric vehicle without 4 sq metres of solar panels seems to be suicidal my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Goblin Works Garage on Quest TV did an old Fiat 500 EV conversion last week... 15k to buy the car and a further 15k to buy and install the AC induction motor and bits.

Interesting but don't you have to get it certified for road use etc? Presumably it needs some sort of MOT and re-registration and I wonder what the insurance companies make of it?
I believe that ZF have an auto box with built in electric motor to make hybrid conversion easier. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Back on topic, I have today taken the plunge and after 7 years traded my Freelander for a Disco Sport. Whether I have done the right thing or not remains to be seen, but only time will tell....
