While changing my battery yesterday in my 2010 LR2, I noticed this little connector sitting in the tray behind the old battery.

It was connected to anything.

Does anyone know what it is for?

Could it be related to the tube that connects to the top of the battery?

Looks like the vent pipe elbow.

It could be a water hose elbow for windscreen/headlight washers etc. 94 Disco 300 TDI Gone

Vent is the best answer so far. If it is the vent, do I need to find out where it lost the connection? Or doesn't it matter.

The bent pipe fitting is simply to avoid the hose from kinking around a corner on the physical battery and preventing the gas from venting. Can you see where your hose is connected to the top of your battery? Is it connected directly to the top of the battery or is there another elbow fitting there in between the battery and the vent hose. Regardless, it should not be issue unless the battery can shift it's physical position, that should not be possible if it was properly installed. I think you had another thread with a pic of the new battery setup? I'll have a look but the pic was pretty dark from memory I think.

EDIT: Looks like there is a fitting on that pic so it's likely redundant now.............can you trace the vent pipe all the way? Personally, after looking at the pic (it's not dark BTW, I just have a bad memory ), your setup looks fine to me. Did you find the fitting during the install b4 new battery was fitted or after?

Doesn't appear the be any kinks in the vent.

I found that fitting under the battery when I removed the old one. Maybe my friends at the dealership left it there from another event.

Looks like an old battery breather pipe.

The connector should be attached to that pipe on right of the battery.
It then plugs into breather hole on end of the battery.

That’s the one looks like someone lost the one you found and replaced,it or new battery had one on
