Having recently moved to the YV I'm keen, now the weather is improving (allegedly!) to get out and explore some of the state forrests etc but I'm aware many off the tracks may be beyond my car or my capability.

Thanks Mike- currently running on 18's. But planning on a set of BF GOODRICH KO2 or Grabber AT3's. Not looking for anything hairy, just want to get out and enjoy the car.

You will be fine with the standard tyres on sand. Just let them down. We were in Francois Peron NP last year, 20psi with the Conticross tyres. A few nervous moments for me on soft sand on a beach but got off without any issues.

To give an indication, Vesko did a full Simpson Desert crossing on 18's with the factory tyres still on the car. I can tell you the tracks on the western side of the desert are very bad with large sharp gibber rocks, far worse than any dirt road in Victoria and he made it through ok. I had the Grabber AT3's on my car and was happy with them. I'm sure the BFG's would be good but more expensive? Vesko's tyre of choice are the Yoko Geolander AT-S and he's been everywhere. Happy exploring. |
