Within the next year I’ll be having the timing belt done (MY13 74000 miles). I’ve been reading about the water pump being done at the same time. Is this a recommended part replacement or a service part? |

Why do people keep asking the same question? If you don't replace the water pump you are wasting your time doing a cambelt change. My son bought a Renault a few years ago and the dealer fitted a new cambelt, about 18 months later the water pump failed and threw the belt with disastrous consequences. Remember that most cambelt failures are actually water pump or tensioner fails. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The reason for the question was because I didn’t know the answer. I did the search function but didn’t find the definitive answer, hence why I asked. If it was part of the service requirement or indeed a recommendation based on others experiences. It’s not about cutting corners, it’s about genuinely not knowing. |

Sorry if my response sounded unfriendly, it wasn't meant to be. This topic comes up fairly regularly and has even been covered a couple of times in the last week or so. I guess a number of FL2s are now coming up to the age when it needs doing hence the interest. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Shamus’ question was quite valid. In my case, the cam belt was replaced at about 50k as the crank oil seal was replaced under warranty. The dealer did not change the water pump or aux belt as the warranty did not pay for them ( if I had realised I would have myself). Now at over 92,500 miles I will soon be in the quandary of whether to get the whole lot done again or wait for one to fail!
