Well, I'm pleased to say that so far our FL2 is not costing me a lot to run - another reason to keep it. May it continue.

This year its had:

New rear brake disks and pads
New battery
new ATF, PTU and rear diff oil
A service - genuine parts
MOT
Waxoyl to underneath

Total £387

Plus another £525 for VED and insurance

Being retired and handy with a spanner helps Very Happy Jules

Actually cheaper than a standard service at the dealers - which some of us were obliged to do due to being in warranty.

I think the assumption that car reliability has improved over recent decades is unfounded with regard to diesel engine cars. Whereas diesels used to be anecdotally regarded as broadly the same or more reliable than petrols, the evidence since 2015 Euro 6 Legislation in particular seems to be that diesels are more troublesome than their petrol equivalents and less reliable than previous generation diesels. The legislation has adversely impacted diesel engineering more so than petrol. This is in effect an unaccounted for cost of compliance with pollution reduction technology which has challenged even the most capable of diesel engine designers in firms such as Honda or Toyota. I wonder if the legislators and bean counters ever considered the adverse impact of all those unnecessary journeys now being made just to re-generate dpf filters and the trips back and forward to the dealers to re-set warning lights, top up Add Blue and change engine oil ..….?

not only are diesels getting less reliable, just read an interesting article on GDI engines.
Gasoline Direct Injection - turns out putting the injector in the combustion chamber rather than the inlet port leads to carbon build up on the inlet valves (hot oily gasses from crankcase breathers).

Since Christmas I have had the following problems :

1. Drivers footwell soaking wet again. Thought I had this sorted out. Obviously not.
2. Screw in one month old tyre. Able to be fixed.
3. Key fob showing low battery. Replaced both with Duracells.
4. Front most power socket failed. Traced to fuse box behind glovebox not where the manual says it is. Fiddly job.
5. Small amount of water gathering on top of rear blind. New seal for brake light ordered.
6. Passenger side mirror sticking, only retracting half way. Hopefully sorted with some silicon spray.
7. Front passenger door not unlocking on first click. On its way out?
8. Boot not unlocking on first click. On its way out?

I know none of these are major problems but all at the same time? Car has just had a main dealer service at a cost of £350 and has just turned 46k miles. I think I’ll leave it a few months to see if anything else fails before it goes in under warranty for the locks.

Your passenger door, rear doors and tailgate will only unlock with double click of fob. 1 click just opens drivers door. Thumbs Up Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Thanks Bob. Just went out to check this and you’re right. Doh !! I don’t know how I forgot this. I’m putting it down to age.

Still that’s two more things off the list.

Thanks.
