Auto gearbox 'mega' flush - no can do!

Hi Freel2 community,
I wanted to get the auto box on my 2007 Freelander flushed and re-filled (a Mega Flush) but was told by the guys at JGS 4x4 in Northants that they could not do it 'due to the type of oil line connectors fitted to the gearbox'. They advertise it for the Range Rover Sport, Discos and invite enquiries re other Land Rovers and other makes?

Has anyone else come across this before and/or does anyone know where I can get this done? My car has done 100k miles and. despite what LR says and as suggested a few times on this forum, I am sure all that horrible old ATF could do with being replaced Sad

Thanks,

Defo needs to be done, have not come across this problem before. There are members on this forum who are fountains of knowledge, I'm sure you will soon get the answer you need. Changed mine at 60,000.

Look up your nearest Fedauto garage. They will do it. Mine was done recently for £160.

Had a place near me that does the same, Range Rovers, Discos etc but couldn't do the FL2. Ended up doing it myself, its quite easy really if you have some hose of the correct diameter you can pump it out a litre at a time.

I was told by a very reputable auto gearbox specialist that my auto box could not be flushed by machine because there is a chance doing so would push some of the solenoid seals out.

I had to have some adapters machined up to suit the FL2 gearbox cooler, to allow flushing with my machine Thumbs Up

Done my own box at 117k miles, and behaves perfectly, even running 230bhp, and we've never had an issue after flushing the box on a customers car Thumbs Up

Hi to everyone who chipped in with suggestions a couple of weeks ago when I was looking for somewhere to do an auto gearbox mega flush on my MY07 HSE TD4.
Well last week I had it done by Cowley & Co of Whaddon, Bucks, just outside Milton Keynes. It is a small independent Land Rover garage and a selection of RRS, Full Fat RR, Discos, Defender and Series of various vintages were awaiting attention and a steady stream of customers picking up or dropping off.

The place is a bit out of the way and there is no reception or waiting area but I was given use of a courtesy car which was handy. They had my car for a couple of hours and let me know when it was ready. I was shown the evidence of some very well used ie black ATF and what went in to replace it. My 07 has just clocked up 100k!
The flush cost me £312 inc VAT which is quite a bit more than JGS but then they couldn't do it for any FL2 it would seem, and Whaddon is much closer for me anyway.

The verdict - gear changes are now much smoother and undetectable but for the momentary change in engine note. It seems much quieter too? I should have had it done when I had a Bluefin re-map to 190 bhp earlier this year which transformed the mid-range and economy.
Just wish I could get rid of that annoying 'thruuuum!' from the drivetrain going through 1500 rpm!

A Merry Christmas and Happy 2020 to all members. Thumbs Up
