Need a 2 new keys...Freelander 2 2013

Hi,

Getting close to a disaster Smile

First, shortly after buying the car (used) I lost one of the 2 keys.

Now, the lock bottom does not work on the remaining key. Opens well and also ignites the car.

I am worried that sooner or later the key will stop working completely or I will loose it so need to get 2 functional keys to both open the doors and start the car.

What is the best way to go about this?

I have heard about and investigated the following options

1) Go to the LR dealer and they will take care of it. I live in Latin America, so that will probably be an expensive solution as I would guess 2 keys will cost 500-1000 USD incl programming?

2) Go to the LR dealer and have them do only one key while I keep the existing "half functioning one" as back-up. Still expensive but 1 unit is cheaper than 2

3) Somehow get 1-2 units of "virgin FOB" and have an alternative dealer program them. I have heard that it requires quite some research to fin a virgin FOB that has the right frequency and to find a dealer who can program

Which option would you recommend? If its option 3 any advice? Are there options I have not detected?

Does your insurance cover lost keys? I know mine does and will replace them if lost. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

I don’t know what differences there are, if any, in the procedures for activating a new key for a 2013 car and a 2008 one but I bought a new genuine LR key for my 2008 FL on eBay for GBP60 and programmed it myself using the SDD software and a Chinese made clone of the Mongoose cable. If you search the Forum for SDD and Mongoose you'll find out more about them.
