Noisy fuel pump

I think I have a noise from my fuel pump. whining noise from L side of engine with engine running; keeps going for a second or so after switching off ignition.

Are you sure it's not towards the front as the throttle body "whines" on shut down.

Thanks

It whines the whole time, whatever it is. it does seem to be towards the front, just behind the grill.

I'm thinking now that it's something electrically driven because it continues with the same pitch for 2 or 3 seconds after stopping the engine. I'm assuming the boost pump is inside the tank?

the electric pump in the tank is a balance pump to keep fuel in the take off side of the tank and does not push any fuel to the engine, fuel is only sucked to the engine by the mechanical pump on the engine.

That's the throttle body. gears will be stripped.

Do you get shudder on engine shut down? Classic symptom. Andy

No, nothing like a shudder. And it runs fine!

I don't see how it can be that, tbh...

If the TB is stuck open the engine will work OK but you will get a slower shut down or run on.

Thanks. I don't have any of those symptoms, it's just a high-pitched whine...

A high pitched whine is normal.

Thanks, but it's quite loud! I have an MoT in half an hour, I'll get a second opinion. If it if the TB I don't mind replacing it even though I'm selling it. They seem quite cheap and access is easy. It's just... why do the gears run continuously? If I disconnect it, will it still start?

Thx

It's definitely the throttle body.

What's it supposed to do? It starts fine without the wiring connected.

If it's stuck partially open\closed will affect performance. I noticed an improvement in mpg after changing mine.

It mainly helps with engine shut down. If you get shuddering when you turn off, that's throttle body not working and closing airflow. Mine shuts down more cleanly now. Andy
