Makes no difference. Even if the Grenadier ends up looking exactly the same,be more reliable, have better engine/gearbox and fuel economy, it'll never be a Defender will it ? Kia Elan ,anyone ?

The Kia Elan, was based on the Lotus Elan. Some were sold in the UK but ultimately they only ever sold 1000 in total despite sharing most of the Lotus components (less engine, some interior and suspension parts and rear light clusters). Why buy a clone when you can have the genuine Lotus article.
I just don't think that making a Defender clone is the right way to go. A stand alone , rugged 4x4 in the spirit of the Defender is fine, but a look-a-like ? I just can't see who the target buyers will be. I mean, if you never bought a Defender in the first place, then a Defender clone won't interest you either.
And certainly not Defender enthusiasts. I've been around Land Rovers for over 30 years and trust me, Land Rover enthusiasts just ain't gonna buy it. They're a precious and fickle breed. Like the "new" Defender, it will be treated with scorn.
Farmers ? Maybe, if the price is right.
The fashion conscious ? No, they'll buy the "New" Defender or spend £1000's on buying an original (Not very) from one of the bespoke rebuild manufacturers like Twisted Automotive.
Just my penneth's worth.
