Hi I've just bought a 2011 freelander 2gs its doing about 34 to the gallon
I was wondering how to get better fuel consumption. Is remapping a good option
Any tips appreciated.

To me, 36 mpg is pretty good. I’m averaging 33.14 over 7 years. You don’t buy a Land Rover for fuel economy.

Our previous FL2 with an Alive Tuning remap would regularly return 48mpg

Although I don't know how or were you drive I think that your consumption is well within the norm.

FL2s are about ability not mpg. You will get a better figure if you take it steady on a long run, but if you are getting that mpg driving around Bristol just be thankful it pretty good. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

we coast ours ,a manual,whenever possible,and get into 6th asap,egr blanked off, we get between 35 and 40 mpg,we live in devon with some steep hills on our regular routes, and my wifes trip to work is only 2 miles so im very pleased with figures.any kind of long fairly flat trip returns 40mpg,when im driving.i used to take customers out in new cars to prove mpg ,first I would drive (Chryslers)obtaining 36 mpg ,then them with the same amount of fuel(special containers fixed to carburettor) ,they could never match what I obtained the best being 30 mpg.so it proves driving style is very important.ps mines oct 2009 no dpf

Avoid traffic congestion, hills, intersections, roundabouts, stop lights, shopping centres, carrying unnecessary items in car, check tyre pressure regularly, clean car, old cars are heavier because of dirt (an old 747 is a tonne heavier), drive smoothly & take advantage of tailwinds!

My petrol engine can achieve 7.8L/100kms in ideal situations. Around Sydney in heavy traffic 20L/100kms. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

On a 300 mile trip my FL2 did 42.5 MPG , tank to tank, it was remapped last year

First of all I would like to apologise for taking so long to reply and thank everyone for there replies. I've learned to drive it like it should be driven and enjoying every minute of it.

Will get me >100 miles per gallon of fuel used

And for where I live the Bike is faster than the Car during the commute times.


I do believe that's its better to think in term of gallons per year as opposed to miles per gallon.

We are a km from shops, it takes longer to find a parking spot than walk. If we go, & it is not often, to a large shopping centre we go on Sunday as it is easier & far quicker to park in the street than getting in & out of a multistorey carpark. We get some exercise by default as it doesn't take any longer parking a street away.

We use the car & enjoy it but keep our Litres Per Year down a lot by walking the whole trip or walking the last section. But waste fuel driving around Australia!

Seriously, if you can put in a bit of physical effort for the short trips or last few hundred metres your car will be a lot more economical. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
