Our rooftoptent at the moment mounted with thule. I like/prefer a roofrack but have to find out first how much place is left for other stuff like petrol etc.

You can even fit a chainsaw up there!

142kg on our roof. I put solar panels in the car & empty fuel as quick as I can when on corrugated roads. Tyres at 24psi: https://vimeo.com/364281135 Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

This looks very useful Thumbs Up . But what I mean is with a rooftoptent include. The Front Runner Slimline II is a rack that will fit on the FL2, direct on the roof. I'm figuring out how much left for other stuff.

for example:

I had a Rhino Rack roof platform but got rid of it & replaced it with a second set of Land Rover cross bars. Platform 20kg, cross bars 3.6kg. I just had to get as much dead weight off the roof as possible as the maximum weight including roof rack is 75kg & I'm way over.

I had to completely rebuild the platform to fit the car, a few hundred pop rivets later to reduce spacing of decking.

The roof platform was screwed (tapped M6 holes) into a 3 X 20mm stainless steel flat bar in channel where the rubber strip would normally be. Now I have the fuel holder directly on the crossbar.

Looks like a HF Radio Mast to me.
The clue is in the coax connector in other photo.

(Well that's my guess, we could turn this into a competition?)

So 360 tonne mining trucks see you, or be seen over sand dunes (a legal requirement on some tracks) & be seen on narrow section of tracks where you can't pull to the side (can't even open a door on either side) or really don't want to back up.

Bottom view of roof platform. I had to buy an additional cross brace (black is all I could get). There is a block of rubber at each end to rest on the LR roof rails. I also straightened the LR cross bars as they bend up in the middle.

I added 3x50 & two thicknesses of 3x20 anodised flat bar to fit between the cross bar plastic covers.

I was very happy with the whole thing in the end, it was a massive job rebuilding it but it worked well, moving the Rhino deck extrusions closer together created a great floor to stand on, but as I said earlier I got rid of it to reduce dead weight.

If you don't have a bull bar to mount a sand flag you are required to mount it at the front of a roof rack. The Land Rover roof rack is a bit unstable at the front so it's on my fuel tank holder but I have since angled the bracket forward & strengthened it so the flag pole leans forward about 15 degrees.

Unfortunately the chainsaw is on the other side of the road! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I had to crawl into a bush to get the angle just right. Could have had a chainsaw! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
