I think JLR's 'smart move' would have been made easier no doubt by the EU subsidy of £110 million that was made available to JLR to build the factory in Slovakia! Its crazy that some of our taxes will have been used to create jobs in Slovakia building the Disco/Defender that previously were built in the UK! FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

I can imagine it would have done. We’ve, historically, certainly done extremely well out of EU funding down here in Cornwall, funding which would also have come out of EU wide taxation |

Well done Tigger for mentioning something good from the EU rather that some others who just take something negative and use it out of context as if all EU matters were truly negative for the UK.

Brexit wont help the fishermen - it wont create more fish. Something else is required.

Plenty of fish, in fact the fisherman here throw more away than they are allowed to land, in fact our local fish market/auction has closed in the past few months because of the lack of fish being landed, not caught! F*****g ridiculous. Regards

No fish, a bit like our water management. We do have a drought but we are sucking too much water our of the rivers in the good times so there is none left when there is no rain.

Probably because it wasn’t true. The £110m was not an EU subsidy - it was funds provided by Slovakia to JLR and the involvement of the EU was to determine if the grant aid complied with State Aid rules which deal with competition. Of course the Slovakian grant may have been co-financed from EU funds already granted to Slovakia, but that would have been their choice - it was NOT a subsidy from the EU in addition to what Slovakia was getting anyway under the Structural Funds regime. |

I wasn’t commenting on Brexit - I was simply making the point that describing the EU’s State Aid approval of the Slovakian government’s £110m grant to JLR as an ‘EU subsidy’ is simply incorrect. But then it makes for better scaremongering to claim it’s a subsidy. Never let the facts get in the way of a good story! |

As well as the subsidy being approved and the new factory approved before Brexit was even a thing... |
