Hi all, thanks for having me here as a brand new owner! I feel like I've stepped into a magical world of enthusiasts!! I didnt get this with my Vauxhall signum!!

Anyway, first issue.....a few days ago I had my new (to me) freelander 2 serviced by a mate who is a mechanic. He rang me to tell me that I have no propshaft on the vehicle!? I went down and had a look and sure enough there was just a big gap where it should be!! Its an 08 plate 2.2 hst auto. I've sourced a propshaft and the mounting brackets and just waiting on the bolts/washers to be delivered before I attempt to fit it.
Any hints/tips or things to look out for? Should the propshaft be greased up before fitting? Never even had a car with a propshaft before so it's all new to me! Any experienced advice would be appreciated.

Hello Ian, was you sold the car as being 4x4? If so take it back.

The main reason for someone removing the rear propshaft is because the rear diff is knackered. It is not a problem to use it as it is, in 2 wheel drive, but as far as traction is concerned it will be like any other front wheel drive car.

One good thing is that in 2 wheel drive it will be slightly more economical.

Hi Geoff. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I bought the car from Ebay through an auction clearance place so it was bought 'as is.'
The car drives fine but I'd like to have her as she should be with 4WD, especially with winter coming up!
I assume that if I fit the prop and there is an issue with the rear diff I would know straight away? Could I do any more damage or is it worth fitting the prop to see what happens? Dont want to knacker an otherwise driveable vehicle!! Thanks.

It was a bit of a surprise!! I didnt think to check as I thought the prop issue was only on the FL1 and had been solved on the FL2! I was hoping that it had been removed purely for fuel economy but I realise that's very optimistic! I'll keep u all posted when I get around to fitting. 👍
