Hi everyone, whilst I’m new on here, it’s unfortunately time to say goodbye to my FL2 2008 HSE with HST bodykit in Stornaway Grey with the 19” wheels.

I’ve loved having “Freddie” and covered just over 50k miles in him since 2016. However the boss aka wife decided to buy a 4 circle German car as our family and towing car, so I’m under orders to sell Freddie in order to buy something with cheap tax and good fuel consumption.

Any suggestions what my car is worth (it now has approx 104k on the clock) and advice what a “suitable runaround” may be.

Down under the Freelander can have up to 350 kg tow ball weight. We have to have a minimum of 10% of the towing weight on the tow ball. Freelander's short rear axle to tow ball distance is ideal as you get a low leverage factor. Normally people factor in 1.4 for back of the envelope calculations for rear axle load limit. I have never seen an Audi in Australia towing & I have seen a lot of caravans been towed while traveling around Australia. You would be better off using the A6 for the runaround. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

To answer your question, £4/5k and anything petrol for short journeys.
Fortunately in our household, we don't have a boss and we don't issue or follow orders. We have Sd4 HSE used equally by both (with memory seats specifically for that purpose), for longer home journeys and 3 annual trips to Spain, occasional towing and any posh event. It does 16K miles a year. Also an '05 Renault Modus auto which again is equally used for all short runaround journeys, and only does 4K miles a year. On the one-off major tow, taking a 1.8tonne caravan from Holland to Spain across the Pyrenees, the Freelander was fantastic and effortless. I agree with Lightwater; the Audi is the shopping car.

Thanks for the comments guys, the Audi is a Q5 so not to bad for towing especially with the DSG box. It’s weird how a 10 month old daughter changes everything! I approximately do 60 miles per day for work so need something good on fuel, well better than the 35 mpg I’m getting at the moment. It essentially all comes down to I need to reduce my outgoings every month, which my luxury has to go, although I was really looking forward to snow this year!!!

Paul, your car is very much like mine, much more appealing than the plain freelanders, the HST kit looks great. If I were you i would test the market at £6000 . . .

Thanks Northcroft, that’s what’s frustrating when companies give part Ex prices they don’t take into consideration all the extras.

The change is to save money, the wife will predominately have the Q5 instead of the cheap to run car and does less than 10 mile a week and I’ll go to having the cheap car as I do a few hundred per week.

The obvious thing to do would have been to swap, unfortunately the other half is not a fan of the green oval!
