I’d buy from a forum member, but never used from eBay.

What's the difference ? Both carry exactly the same risk.
However, it could be easier to offload stolen items via the forum. A theft of a vehicle or parts from a forum member will inevitably start a new thread. Therefore members will keep an eye out on eBay, Gumtree etc in case anything comes up.
Supposing a member, let's call him Member X,who's not a very active one, but a member nonetheless has Freelander parts that he knows are stolen. There are no members complaining of theft of their vehicle or anyone having parts stolen. So it's safe to assume that the stolen parts that Member X has, do not belong to another forum member. So nobody bats an eyelid when his stuff comes up for sale.
However, if Member X tries to sell a stolen parts via eBay, due to the volume of potential buyers, he cannot be sure that nobody will recognise the parts as being from their vehicle.

Also thieves specifically target forums for information and will monitor several forums as a source of potential targets or buyers.

e.g. Member "Dave" starts a thread about the very expensive and highly desirable new tyre and wheel combo that he's just bought. One member,"Mike" asks where he got them from, and "Dave" replies "the tyres shop on Chester Road, as it's only 2 streets away from where I live".
"Mike" then asks, "oh, I know the one, I used to live about 1/2 a mile from there a few years ago, what road do live on ?"
"Dave then replies, not realising he's given the thief who's watching the thread his location and sure enough the following weekend his nice new wheel combo gets stolen. A new thread is posted, condolences from other members etc etc and everyone will keep an eye out on eBay, Gumtree etc.
Meanwhile, thief then sells the wheels via a separate forum and nobody suspects as although he's not very prolific, he's still a member.

How much did you pay for your facelift Xenons? I'd like to do this mod for exactly the same reasons, but can't find headlights for less than about £450 each!

Is installation easy? Read on here somewhere that it needs a CCF edit and that there might be issues with self levelling?

Mine were new and set me back £1,700 which is pocket money really having bought my car new so it’s not much as a comparison plus you can’t put a price on safety.

It will take a Indy about 5 minutes if that to enable the CCF self levelling is not an issue and mines passed every MOT since and so have other forum members cars. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

If it helps, have a look on the carparts4less website. they offer OE quality pattern ones that workout to £261.49 each with free delivery using the current discount code "FALL15" Thumbs Up

FYI, anyone looking to buy anything car related, be it pattern parts or consumables, its worth looking on their site first they have to be the cheapest supplier out there. They are an off shoot of ECP I believe. 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep

I am still trying to locate a replacement headlight for what I regard as "reasonable" money, and I have become increasingly confused by which variant I actually require

My current Headlight which is a 2013 model Halogen (Uses HB3 bulbs) has a part code of DH52-13W030-AB

On ebay there are quite a lot available with a 6H52 prefix from 2007-2010 vehicles which I am sure are not suitable. I have however located one with a BH52 prefix from a 2012 model ???

Please can anyone advise whether I need to match my code exactly?? What differences are there (if any)??

Many thanks Steve

If it’s 2013 with a white reflector (previous owner may have upgraded to MY15 headlights black reflectors) then you have 2 variants of halogens. Halogens with signatures and halogens without signatures.

When you turn your side lights on do you have the signature outline?

A good way to tell when looking online is that non signature cars have a chrome outline and not a clear white one. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Whilst the later HB3 lights are no where near as good as the HID Xenon I dont think they are terrible in terms of lighting. But certainly terrible in terms of JLR design though - definitely a case of form over function.

So I carry a spare set for when they burn out - about once a year. Jules

you will need one looking like this for yours

you will need to check the sticker on the top of the light(if its still stuck on) which will say either HAL for halogen (standard XS fitment) or HID (Xenon only standard on HSE LUX/Metropolis)

one that looks like this wont work as its from MY2006 > MY2011 (late 2012 '62' plate maybe the facelift lights above as they will be MY2013)

LR Nut - the adaptive HID's on my Beemer were great until they jammed- which they did numerous times. The only way to make them point in the correct direction was to turn the car off and restart - not easy on the motorway.
Despite several sets of headlights and numerous visits to the dealership the issue remained. It put me off buying a Metropolis (plus I didnt like the wheels or want a sunroof). But if I'd known the HB3 lights were going to be so annoying I might have gone for the Metropolis after all.

For me, one of the beauties of Scotland is the lack of light pollution and the really starry nights - (except in mid summer when you hardly have a night) Jules
