Hello all, Newbie to the forum. Just bought a MY08 Freelander TD4 XS. It has been fitted with a Garmin satnav, but there is no documentation with it. Although I know how to operate the sat nav my question is how do you update it for software, maps etc? Does it have to be removed from the car to connect it to PC? Many thanks. |

Hi and welcome I’m no expert but would guess the PC update is the way to go. |

I have the stand alone garmin sat nav and its just a case of plugging the mini usb into the PC & downloading the software updates .

Thanks - As you can see the unit is built in, and there are no obvious signs of a usb or sd card input anywhere. So it looks as though it has to come out to be updated. Can the new Garmins be updated by wifi ?. Suppose this could be a future alternative.

The Garmin sat nav will have a (mini) USB port which you connect to your computer.

I fitted a garmin in mine & routed a usb lead into the glovebox. To update it I connect a laptop that is connected to the home wifi, simple really.

The power on mine is hard wired from the passenger side fusebox using the 12v-5v power supply lead attached to the screen mount fitting. That means that the micro usb port is still available. Of course yours might be wired differently but you won't know until you remove the centre panel of course.

Did things change in 2008? My 2007 HSE has. Disc player under the drivers sear that has the satnav software on it. |

^^^ no, the Garmin is a custom install by the owner/previous owner, it’s in place of just a blank storage hole on the FL2 without built in SatNag. Regards
