Playing with my latest toy, a 2013 HSE Lux and it has 19" rims on it. The tyres are different on all corners and I need to spend out on a new set of AT3 tyres anyway.

I live not far from Dartmoor, in a town full of pot holes, and I am seriously contemplating bucking the trend of how large a wheel with a skinny tyre you can get and downsizing to the 17" rims I had on my old freelander as the ride and performance was just awesome.

My question is this, I know the brake discs etc on the 2013 are somehow different to my older 2007 model, but does this have any increase in size etc, and can I retrofit a set of 17" wheels to my later 2013 model?

I had 17’s on my 2011 (face lifted car),18’s on my 2012 and 19’s on my 2013 and I didn’t notice any change in the brakes that would have meant that the wheels wouldn’t have been interchangeable.

I’ve got no time for low profile tyres on LR’s either, but the 18’s seemed to be the best compromise; they gave much of the smooth ride and kerb/pothole protection of the 17’s, but without the slight wander in the “straight ahead” position on dual carriageways of the 17’s.

Have done exactly as you're contemplating on a 2012 SD4 HSE. The dealer advised me not to as I would loose a fortune on future trade in loosing my bling 19" diamond cuts. But I hated the ride compared to my previous TD4 SE and bought a set of "experienced" 17" and fitted new Continentals and got 39500 miles from them.

Love the look of the diamond cut 19" wheels.....but
17" will give you a taller tyre wall which in turn a softer ride,
plus possibly a bigger choice in tyres.

The taller tyre wall is a must given I also seem to be driving a lot on new housing estates with no tarmac and incredibly high alloy obliterating kerbs, so dropping to a 17 is a must.

My real question though was the physical shape and size of the disc brake setup as I am aware it altered for MY2013 onwards, so still unsure if I have anything larger to contend with there and if a 17" would now physically fit ?

we have a 2013 with the EPB and it has 235/65/17 fitted from new, as still has a New Wrangler spare

Ride is great, dont notice any wander straight ahead, but you do feel the softer ride when cornering,
smooooooth steering inputs required and its fine (other car mind is a RRS dynamic on 21")

If we need to replace the tyres (lots of tread still) considering moving to 245/70/17 AT's

FYI, the 235/65/17 is as close as you can get to the correct speedo accuracy (0.5%)

but the 245 you suggest would knock it out by around 4% which is a bit too far for my liking

I had the General Grabber AT on my old one and looking for the AT3 now as hearing good things about them

My MY14 GS has standard 17"wheels and Im running Grabber AT3 in 235/65/17 tyres on them. Great combination, very comfortable ride, not any noisier than previous Goodtear Efficient Grips. Ive also used Gravver AT2 and AT on my previous Discovery 2 which had 18"s. All very good tyres  Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I'm just about to change to 245/70/17 - based upon the OBD speed readout Vs Speedometer Vs GPS comparison at a number of constant speeds, the increase in tyre size % should actually make the Speedo accurate at last! 2000 Xei 1.8 gone
2004 HSE Td4 Auto, MT's, sump guard, sliderz - gone
2014 GS Man - AT's, Mantec Sump guard and tank guard, split charger in boot, towbar, work in progress...

Disagree, that tyre size would not be accurate

You may find that its your speedo head that is out of calibration, not the tyres !!

On the standard 235/60x18 wheels my speedo read 3 mph fast according to GPS speed camera recording, fitting 255/60/18 has now rendered the speedo more accurate  Regards

I`m intrigued as to what GPS equipment you are using to base this on - I work a lot with GPS equipment and am always amazed when people quote things like that and are invariably using an app on their phone or a cheapie TomTom from Halfords

Those devices are great for a rough guess, but nowhere near accurate enough to use as a reference point.
