Newbie Frelander owner - CD problems

Hi, just bought a Freelander 2 GS TD4. Very happy with it, however, the CD player doesn't work and I'm looking to update the stereo. Not just because of that, but I also want Sat Nav and Bluetooth for my phone, as well as the ability to use Spotify etc. I have looked at after market units, and like the look of the Kenwood DMX-7017DABS which seems to do what I want it to. I have looked at various posts, and it seems that swapping out the stereo isn't as easy as it is in other vehicles. I do have parking sensors and steering wheel control for volume etc, but not for phone. Realistically, is this really as hard as it looks?

Depends if you have the basic stereo or the midline one (which may say Alpine on the speakers of the front doors).

If it's the basic one I think it's pretty easy. If it's the midline, like mine (I have a 2011 GS) then it's a pain in the arse.

You need a connector kit to get the new head unit talking to the car. This costs about £200 then if you want parking sensors kept its another £50 odd. But the kit will bypass the sub. So you'll need a new amp and kit if you want to keep the sub, at another £250.

Then there's another kit for about £300 that apparently doesn't bypass the sub/amp which is good, but you lose individual speaker level adjustment, apparently.

Hope that's of some help. I'm planning on doing it myself but trying to decide which kit to buy. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

I had a problem with the CD’s taking out the fuse in the boot starting the car and while it’s running put the fuse back,it sorted mine.

So if I have the basic kit I might be in with a chance of a fairly straight swap. I can buy a parking sensor kit and have them working independently. Haven't seen Alpine written anywhere

You may well be ok. Might be worth someone else confirming what I've said before you jump in though.

I only say this as I've based everything I've said here from reading various posts here and contacting suppliers, but Im no expert in identifying the different head units. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

I have HSE and had to jump through some hoops to get it to work with the Alpine factory amp.
There are a few harness kits out there but all are pretty expensive -- cost more than any other kit I've had to get in the past.
