Auto box gear lever stuck

Hi, I have a 2013 Freelander 2 which I really like.............still. Since our ownership from a Land Rover dealer in Jan 16 we have had a Haldex pump, 2 transfer boxes, complete back axle including haldex unit and pump. All under extended warranty luckily.

My present problem is I pulled up to traffic lights and left it in drive with the foot brake on. When it was time to go the engine revved up but the car didnt move. I tried to move the gear lever but it was jammed in drive position and wouldn't move even across to the 'sport' mode.

In the end with cars behind, I turned off the engine, restarted and all was good. Any ideas? The car is still under extended warranty as we renewed it last time. I have looked in the archives here but cannot find anything similar.

There is a spring in the lever that is prone to breaking. The surround of the lever just pulls off very easy so you can have a look. I wouldn’t be surprised if a piece of the spring has broken off and was jamming it.

Thanks for the quick reply. Would this also account for the car not moving in drive though?

The spring sounds as though it won’t let you go from drive to reverse without a positive action
