New 18" wheels for my LR2

After 11 years with the original wheel I decided to upgrade

Technical specs

......................Original Wheels..........................New Wheels

Diameter...................18"....................................18"

Width........................8".....................................7.5"

Center bore.............63.4 mm.............................63.4 mm

Bolt circle...............5 X 108 mm.......................5 X 108 mm

Offset....................ET55...................................ET55

Not exactly the same but they fit fine.

Note: one difference is the thickness of the aluminum where the lug nuts attach. The new wheels are thicker and the lug nuts only turn 5 1/2 turns before it is fully seated the original lug nuts were over 8 turns to fully seat.

The most important part the picture

I need to order center caps and TPMS

Thanks

Paul

Good stuff, but the one that's missing is the wheel "load rating"? Wink FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

Thanks Don.

The color was what I really wanted, I am very glad I made that choice.

Now that I've changed the wheels I will need to keep her for another 11 years

Light water,

I agree about the roof rails. (Its unlikely I would use them and the cost is significant)

But for the SE spec with the Black rocker panels the door impact strips don't add to the vehicle.

Having said that for the HSE spec the door strip looks really nice and I do like them on a white FL2 HSE like yours

Take care

Paul

Ronp,

That is a very fair point

I did change the Wheels and the Tires (I mean Tyres)

From the manual

The original Tyres that came on the car were 107 load rated.

And because that is the only size that Land Rover sent to the US the Tire store only wants to fit 107's

But as you can see from the manual 103 are fine as well for 235 60 18

To answer your question

235 60 18 107V (as fitted by the factory)

235 60 18 103H (is what I have now)

Note: this is my fourth set of tires and only the first set were 107's the other have all been 103's, so I've been running 103' for more than 8 years.

The tires that came with the wheels are Michelin's and they are very nice.

Thanks

Paul

P.S. in case you were wondering the wheels and tyres are from the LR2's first cousin the Volvo XC60, a vehicle of nearly identical size and weight.

Thumbs Up ...... but it wasn't the tyre I was referring to Paul.
It was the max load a wheel would take.

For example you'd expect a standard 18" car wheel to have a lower load rating than an 18" 4x4 wheel.
Therefore if you put a car wheel on a 4x4, you could then reasonably expect failure (even with a correctly rated tyre).
Also, cheap/inferior Chinese wheels have been know to fail because of inadequate load rating.
This load rate info is normally stamped on an inside spoke.

But if it's (as you say) from an XC60, then it's more than lightly going to be adequate on your FL2. Thumbs Up FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

Different manufacturers have different tests (kerbing, drop test, Chuck holes etc etc) for their wheels but TBH as long as they are a main stream OEM supply they’ll be fine Thumbs Up Regards

Ronp,

I checked the original Land Rover Wheels and the Volvo Wheels over the weekend and neither on had the max load in the casting.

I would have preferred if the max load was a requirement.

Land Rover Wheels

Volvo Wheels

Thanks

Paul

That's odd, generally LR wheels are stamped as such.

See pic of an inside spoke of a set of D4 wheels I've just sold.
Note the LR ref code, LR wheels also come stamped with the LR oval logo which mine also had].
[note your volvo wheels also have these manufacturer references stamped on them]
Do your FL2 wheels have any ref to LR stamped on them ?

Confused
