If you or the wife have ever worked for local government or civil service, CSMA offer the cheapest rates. I think it's provided by Green Flag. I think it's more recovery than roadside repair job though. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I've been a roadside and recovery tech for 30 years and carried out all the usual services for all the recovery operators. Bare in mind that depending on your location ( major cities etc) you are very likely to get a contractor turning up instead of the AA OR RAC patrols/recovery trucks. Although the AA/ RAC charge top dollar they do carry better kit for roadside issues than indipendant operators but are also more likely to keep you waiting longer to turn up! The AA app is very good for other things other than reporting breakdowns etc...I.e, good discounts on meals out, halfords etc. For folks who are not to tech savvy, the car genie is great too but the battery alert is a tad to sensitive lol...just remember, all the garages that cover all the indipendant breakdown providers usually cover the AA/RAC too so think on! There are some good garage lads out there doing the job but these days it's just mostly recovery lads who have little or no mechanical ability or equipment with them to sort you out. These days most providers insist on attending the CUSTOMER ( PREPARED TO RECOVER) so this means attending in a truck rather than a service van. We do sometimes carry very basic kit like jump packs, jacks and a basic OBD scanner but that's usually about it. I'm old school so I carry general hand tools, multimeter, power probe,a few bits and bobs and my trusty tyre plug kit so if your in lancashire and broke down, hope I turn out Rolling with laughter. Hope this all helps folks? P.S, if you do call us out and it's 2am, just think on the chap may not be full of beans as he's likely been dragged out of bed after an already busy 12 hr shift for not much more than minimum wage Yawn Big Cry. The job is a way of life, not a career Thumbs Up

I've just done this after my LR warranty expired!

I went for AA, through www.topcashback.co.uk which has hopefully earned me £63 back from the £135 for full AA cover!

Yep, I do that too. Just had my £63 back on this years joint, any car policy that I took out in March. Takes a while but it comes eventually. Little tip, as you only get the cash back on new policies not renewals - for the third year running I’ve done a switcheroo! Year 1 - policy in my name, wifey as second driver. Year two, new policy in wifeys name with me as second driver. Year three, policy in my name.....you get my drift. Your wife needs her own TopCashback account but you also get a tenner for recommending her. Laughing

The AA have a very good app too - you can call for assistance from the app and track the technician on his way to your car. You also get discounts with the app too - 20% of meals and many chain restaurants, good discounts on airport parking, 10% off at Halfords plus much more. The only two times I have used the AA they have been bloody brilliant too. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Wales 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Firenze Red

Renewed through AXA yesterday £246 and took out GREENFLAG full UK breakdown including home for £56.99 both through Topcashback,

Casback...£35.50 AXA plus £23.10 GREENFLAG, jobs a good one.

Had to say bye bye LV best they could do £267 but not liking the £100 extra excess they stuck on everything windscreen repair up £5 windscreen replacement up £10. All adds up and then this £200 extra unless I use one of their listed garages!!!! Asked on phone were there any near to me and the lad said he couldn't tell me unless I was in an accident as they change all the time Shocked

Sheep If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.
