Windscreen has been cracked by a stone from a lorry on French auto route. It will need replaced when I get home. Just wondering if it's possible to retro fit a heated version? Obviously the wiring in my GS is not present but I'm guessing it would be easy to make up the required circuit . Anyone done this? Are the terminal connections easily accessible once a screen has been fitted in place?

would not be surprised if the wiring was there just need the relays etc.
I fitted a heated screen to an old ex army 110, just need two relays, think I got 100amp ones, one for each side, then it's just a case of wiring and switch, take the power from a ignition feed maybe the fuse for the heated window, if you can get a timed switch that would great. Common sense isn't very common.

Yes entirely doable.
Change screen, plugs should be in plenum chamber, change HVAC module to one with heated screen switch and activate in CCF.
No offence but the “old” add a few relays and power approach is not applicable to L359. It’s all CAN & LIN controlled, lol. MY15

the difference is the fogs are just handled by a relay v heating elements which are controlled by current, timing circuits and sensing circuits but hey have a go but may end up in an expensive disaster. MY15

40 amp fuse heated windscreen left side.
40 amp fuse heated windscreen right side.

That's over a 1kW of "cooktop" if not managed properly, it's a big load on the alternator. Not the sort of thing I would want to accidentally leave on too long.

Also everything else needs power. I would rather let the car manage the power!

Plus:
30 amps heated rear window.
10 amps heated steering wheel.
15 amps driver seat heater.
15 amps passenger seat heater.

Not sure what the mirrors need, probably 5 amps a side. Let alone what the rest of the car needs.

I believe when you get the heated accessories pack the car gets a 180 amp alternator.

When I run my compressors I turn off hi-fi & AC etc to lighten load.

How glaziers cut laminated glass to size, after scoring it is put a bit of metho on the glass & light it to warm the plastic. At least you would be ready to go with an unmanaged heating element! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I was simply saying that adding relay circuits is not impossible however taking into account the power involved probably not a great plan, and not one I'd risk damaging my car for. Think I'll keep the de icer handy instead!

Lightwater is right about the alternator, although I am not so sure what extra equipment full 'cold climate' vehicles have.

Repair Manual says

A single self-exciting generator is located at the front of the engine on the Left-Hand (LH) side of the cylinder block. Two generators are available for the TD4 engine, dependent on vehicle specification. The generators are rated at 90/150 amps and 115/180 amps respectively. The larger rated generator is used on cold climate market vehicles installed with a heated front windshield and electric booster heater.
