Bong....bong...bong

Hi to the good people of freel2.com

Long time no speak. 12 months on from the purchase of my GS and loving it immensly.

No real problems to speak of, the engine has loosened nicely, drives fantastic.

The ride and handling combination never ceases to amaze me everytime I drive it. Not even a hint of a squeak or rattle from anywhere (try asking any BMW owner if thats the case...our other car).

During the recent bad weather and indeed all winter the quickclear windscreen has been brilliant. But the thing is just SO capable in less than perfect conditions, copes with whatever you throw at it with aplomb.

However, there is one thing......the bongs! Have to say it doesn't really bother me but from time to time it decides to bong at you, if anyone has experienced a speed limit bong (bong..bong...bong) in a Disco3 - well this is what its like exactly. Now its not the temerature warning bong its normally around 8 degs and on a recent trip it bonged at me without fail as i passed through 75mph! BUT you cannot set a speed limit warning on a Freelander...most strange, doesn't do that any more by the way, but the other day was bonging at any old speed / time. Lol. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks...

Oh forgot to say./...first service - F**K, how much!! One garage quoted me £450, hahahaha. Finally got it booked at just over £300....JEEZ!!!!!

Is your briefcase etc on the passenger seat making the seatbelt bong go off? the seatbelt warning can be easily disabled there is a thread about that in the tips section on here.

Yeah thanks George...did think of that but its not. This one trip it 'bonged' at EXACTLY 75mph - each and every time, so wierd!! Stopped doing that now...

Hmmm, service have phoned around dealers...most local ones and £315 is the cheapest. Maybe they are hiking up the service costs to cover the money theyre not making on selling cars...??

Hahaha...i know.

No its got to be a sensor I guess. To be clear though its a different "bong" to the you aren't wearing your seat belt "bong" - it is similar to the temperature one.

Thanks any way guys, like I said it doesn't bother me so much.

The only other "Bong" I get is when the washer fluid needs topping up - but this comes with the "i" on the display telling you what the problem is. I can`t imagine that 75MPH is anything to do with washer fluid level!!! Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

Yep - know that bong too, lol.

Funny thing is theres no accompanying information displayed on the dash..

It has stopped now - the 75mph thingy, it now "bongs" spuriously from time to time...gotta be a faulty sensor some place. To be honest can't be arsed to get dealer to look into it - their apathy for such a thing would just annoy me, hehe.

Bong...bong...bong - UPDATE

Well guys and gals as it turns out it IS a faulty sensor.....

The one between my ears!!

Driving along the other day - just happened to look at my sat-nav (TomTom910) as the speed indicator on it turned red....bong...bong...bong. Sounds for all the world like its coming from the car speakers, not the same place as the sat-nav woman.

Turns out it IS from the sat-nav - bonging to tell me I'm breaking the limit....lol.

When it has 'stopped' before I simply didn't have my sat-nav on.

What a bleeding stupid dummie I am - deepest apolagies to my F2 for blaming her.......

Harry
