So you would need to drop the sump to replace it. They just used to unbolt from the side of the engine. Sigh. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France

FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to get a more firm diagnosis by talking to some local garage mechanics, including a couple of Land Rover specialists and an automotive engineering firm that has experience with this diesel engine in other PSA guises too.

They all said that they've never seen a high oil pressure problem like this before so I suspect the gauge is measuring incorrectly or I am.

Either way, no major surgery seems to be required at the moment so I'm putting it all back together.

If I ever get to the bottom of this then I will update you all. In the meantime, thanks for all your help and advice.

I just thought I'd add a further update to this story.

The car continues to run very well with no apparent issues so the high oil pressure reading must have been a gauge issue. I have another gauge and will do another measurement when it's next in the workshop to confirm.

With regard to the engine flushing that I carried out, the oil on the dipstick is remarkably clean even after a few weeks of use. That's a first for me as it's normally black and dirty after a few minutes idling.

We also have a Navara D22 pickup with 70k miles that is due a service so it will now get the same treatment.

I will add to this thread when I do the oil pressure check with the new gauge, probably next year.
