Freelander 2 Weird Key Fob fault

Hi Guys

This is my first post so hello to all!,

Here is my problem, I have a 2009 Freelander 2 and a few days ago the key fob stopped working, so figured it was the battery, got my spare out and that worked fine, sent the faulty one off to a company to get a new battery fitted, it came back today so give it a quick test and locked the doors it worked fine, when to unlock it and it wouldn't work, so got the spare key and now that wont work!, I had to get in the car using the spare key (the alarm went off!) and the wing mirrors wont open!,

So all in all I have a car with closed wing mirrors and 2 keys that wont open or close the doors, it will however start with both keys.

It is as though by closing the car with the repaired fob that it has wiped the code from both fobs could this be possible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Darrel

I’ve just had this same problem both fobs not locking or unlocking car but start it ok so I ordered a new battery and fob case and after swapping battery still no change however if I hold fob high and close to centre of roof ie where receiver is they both work ok . Next I removed and charged main battery overnight and after refitting fobs work from 20 metres away and from what I had read when your battery is starting to deteriorate first thing to start playing up is the receiver so might be time for a new battery or to get it checked for condition. If mine play up again I’m replacing my ageing battery .

This is an old tip on here but I would start by disconnecting the battery on the car for a while then trying again.

Are you using your FL2 regularly?

If you leave your FL2 standing long enough (usually a few weeks) the car will gradually close down its electrical systems to save the battery. You will be left with just the perimeter alarm working with no receiver for unlocking via the key fob.
As I understand it your key should automatically re-synchronise once you have docked it and started the car.
Although the (perimeter) alarm will sound as you open door manually until it recognises key in the start-dock.

I also think that the door mirrors 'remember' their positions and may need reset.

A low battery voltage can cause lots of odd problems on a modern car. -- new battery maybe

Similar problem was key fob

Thank for all the tips, the battery is a few months old.

Anyway tried it again this morning and it worked!, I think you just have to give it time to sort itself out

Possibly the fob wasn't faulty and you have some other intermittent fault ?
