United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver
vin number

Does anyone know how to decode the vin numbers.
Need to order some parts and keep being asked if car is LF or FA. Not helpful when the vin starts SALFA.
Any help would be appreciated.[/quote] Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Possibly don't require the info now.
Just looked at the registration document and found out the car is 160HP 118Kw, from that I gather it is a LF_.
Unless someone can enlighten me further think I can safely order the parts.
Feel free to jump in though if you know different. Whistle Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Nobody knows the difference between LF and FA apparently, see here: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic27850.html

The first page in that topic (post of taztastic) contains a link to a document on how to decode the VIN number.

SAL is the manufacturers designation

FA is the model designation

All Freelander 2 VINs will start SALFA, unless built outside of Solihull Thumbs Up

The rest of that is out of date, so not relevant to newer stuff

Correct. As I said, it's a little out of date

Doesn't have D3, RRS, etc

Thanks for the input everyone.
I've just ordered my timing kit from the info I posted above. Will soon find out if I'm wrong when I have bits of Freelander all over the place. Whistle Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
