The door actuator saga continues! Silly question but on my replacement drivers side actuator I can only see a place to attach 2 cables. I am assuming you remove the plastic part (see pics) and add the bracket from the old actuator? Or have they given me a rear actuator by mistake? Thanks in advance......

Any help much appreciated! Do all the front actuators have 3 cables or do some have 2 cables?

I would have a search on the bay or google for the other door actuators to compare what they look like, as it does look very different to the one I took out

Cheers for reply yeah I have been looking but most of the online parts look like mine, it’s only the scrap ones and people who have actually done theirs that look different. Helpfully the fleabay dealers not responding to my emails might have to get another one

Took another look at mine and I think it’s a good chance yours is for a rear door

Couple more pics of mine tried to align same way as yours (but you may need a mirror!) and no cables, split the body away but don’t see how you would swap the bracket it’s riveted together

Thanks very much for doing that. After lots of searching online it appoears that the front left has 3 cables and all the rest have 2 cables, including the front right. (See pic). I'm hoping this is the case as I'm planning to do it this weekend, just a shame you've got to take the door all apart just to have a look!

Mine had 3 cables - changing them was OK and took about 1 hour - the cables are clipped in place and the clips were difficult to remove without breaking. (you dont need to disconnect the cable to the inside handle as you can remove the actuator with it attached them remove it.)

Ther was a handy youtube video on it.

Thanks topcat, so your drivers side door actuator had 3 cables?

My guess is that only the left front door has 3 cables attached: 1 for the inner handle, 1 for the outside handle and 1 for the key lock. Those 3 cables are shown for front doors in the parts catalog but it's not clear for which front door they are. For rear doors only 2 cables are shown. Since the right front door does not have the key lock I assume it only has 2 cables.

Also the repair manual (link somewhere on this site) also mentions the third cable for LH side front doors only:

one cable when to inside handle - this is the one the guy broke in the youtube video - you can remove this cable with the actuator and disconnect on the bench. The other 2 cables went up and was close to the door latch face - harder to disconnect.

Ok following on from this I successfully fitted my new actuator today. For clarity the drivers side actuator does need only have 2 cables and my part was correct.





I had a major hassle trying to get the second yellow clip undone from the window actuator. My other half was invaluable here. I got the white clip off the peg and lifted the window slightly so it didn’t relocate into the white clip again, then got my partner to put her arm through the speaker hole, then she could reach the yellow clip from that side instead of through the tiny hole in front of the yellow clip. I also had issues getting the cable unclipped but managed it in the end.
I forgot to run the interior door pull cable back through the hole when putting the new actuator in, so had to force it through once the actuator was installed. When I’d finished the interior handle didn’t work . Had to disassemble the whole lot again and discovered that in forcing the cable I had uncoupled it from the actuator, so just a word of warning. All sorted now.
It is a daunting job but it’s more fiddly than anything else.

Good job. When I had my window taped up I was able to reach the yellow clip putting my arm through the big hole and along the outside of the window. With a screwdriver I was able to unclip it and a small stick through a small hole to lever the glass up slightly.
