I think a lot take them off but I bought new ones. Took the plastics out of the wheel arches & painted behind the plastics with Waxoyl & also took it on to the lips of the wheel arches. There was no rust at all & when the Waxoyl dried I fitted new rubber strips to help with stopping stones chipping the paint. |

Common fault, renewed all on both the freelanders I've had, poor design they're not long enough or have enough metal to grip to. I think they are worth replacement as will protect from stone chipping. |

Waste of time and money. Don't really do anything - except hold moisture against the wheel arch lip causing corrosion, then they corrode from the inside anyway until they deform enough to fall off. My Freelander didn't have them when I bought it . I'd have removed them anyway if it had. Useless cosmetic pointless waste of money.

I do take them off every 3 moths or so and give the arch and trims a good clean as pointed out they will hold a lot of mud and road grit otherwise. |

I would think if your going to go blasting across miles of desert road the paint on the extreme edge of the arch edge may well get eroded after a few hundred miles, but not many of us meet the odd sand storm.

Can you recommend an anti chip paint? I might give that a try as going to be more maintenance free. I have found, Hammerite waxol chip shield. that is over-paintable, anyone who has used it and over-painted, I would appreciate their feedback. |
