I can tell you for sure it’s well worth taking the trim off the sills as you won’t believe the amount of crap that ends up in there. It’s a moisture trap,the trim comes off easy enough. |

Had them off when I fitted the side steps, fairly clean underneath & no sign of any rust. I waxoyled under the trims before replacing them.
