Welcome! Although it is not essential to disconnect the battery best practise would suggest that you remove the earth lead just to be on the safe side. |

As above. There are FET's buried all over the vehicle, so better to be safe than sorry. I learned this the hard way when I lost my rear number plate lamps. MY13 HSE Lux.......faultless since new. |

Field Effect Transistors. They are very temperamental when it comes to voltage surges/drops, and can blow quite suddenly, or cause a lot of hidden gremlins across the loom.
