Compression Test Kit

Looking to buy a compression test kit but very unsure what fits the Freelander 2 2.2TD engine. Most kits seem to come with screw in type dummy injectors and some with a clamp which I doubt would fit. Anybody bought one that can confirm fits? Obviously looking for some cheap and cheerful as its not going to be used much.....I hope! 2010 FL2 TD4 GS

Most diagnostic tools allow a compression test by measuring the speed of crankshaft speed during cranking.
Missfire can be detected by cylinder balance and injector correction values
Loss of compression can also be traced using a pico pressure transducer and injector performance monitored by rail pressure when having a pressute transducer connected to the rail.

In this day and age there is no need for any pyhsical diagnosis or swapping or fitti g of parts .

My suggestion is find an indepant specialist that knows how to use a pico scope and has a pressure transducer test kit. Invaluable and so accurate in the right hands.
The pressure sensor can even be inserted in the dip stick hole to measure for any piston ring blow by !
Shouldnt take more than an hour to hour and a half for a full diagnostic test.

I suspect it has a valve gear issue , easily found in minuets by someone who knows what they are doing Jaguar x-type sport gone

I'll check my Icarsoft code scanner again to see what it can do with regards live engine values. I believe some scanners can display what they call cylinder contribution which gives you some idea of cylinder condition/compression. The nice thing about physical diagnosis is that it mostly gives clear evidence of the fault without the need for interpretation. It's easy to record cylinder pressures on a gauge and from that know for sure if you have a compression problem.

Thats OK if you want to throw $$$ at the problem. A garage with the gear and more importantly the someone that REALLY knows what there doing with it is going to charge a fair bit just to check compression and come up with a diagnosis. For my part I want to know what the compression is like and which cylinders if any are low before I decided what to do with the car. At the end of the day I may need to take a hit and get the car to a garage "someone that knows what there doing" but in such an event I want to be armed with as much info as possible to a) allow garage to pinpoint problem quickly and b) know when I'm being "fed a line"

So back to original question:

Nobody bought a cheap compression tester that they know works on a 2.2TD Freelander 2 ???? 2010 FL2 TD4 GS

couldn't agree more that finding a garage that actually knows what they are doing is a challenge.

As for throwing £££s at it, it wouldn't take more than 1.5 hrs max to carry out compression test through a diagnostic tool as this is carried out at cranking, then simply a pressure transducer in the exhaust to measure the strength of the pulses, same in inlet manifold and then one down the dip stick tube.
If I want a reference point I just stick a 2nd channel on no1 injector and then I have my reference point.
Then just analyze the readings and to an expert the answer is there in black & white.

Its no magic, its just that many garages will not adopt modern diag methods that are so good and actually save hours in labour & parts being thrown at a job as well.
I wish you well & fingers crossed Jaguar x-type sport gone

For other engines, in LR's court, yes.
But for FL2, I, for one, didn't find these informations, even if the SDD claims to show them.
No way... It shows you the injections' coding values, but no LIVE values.

Couple of options - but prob cheapest is to use one of these and test by glowplug adapter, downside is really need to remove inlet manifold ( which means gaskets) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-17-pc-Diese...Sw1ZBUsMNc
