Turbo Hoses??

Hi Everyone
This morning I had a "restricted performance" warning light flash on. A little later I heard that "whooshing" noise under acceleration which I have read about from other owners on this forum, so knew what it probably meant. Sure enough, opened the bonnet and almost immediately could see a short split in the short turbo hose at the front of the engine. As I am away at present, I was going to attempt a temporary repair with duct tape and cable ties.

My question is, with turbo hoses is it worthwhile replacing the whole set, or is it just best to fix them as they fail??

Thanks Steve

They will most likely all be the same age and been under the same conditions it may be better in the long run to do them all.

Would love to know if the duck tape fix works - as been told mine is on the way out - add it to the list of stuff to get done. Rolling Eyes

From personal experience, the duck tape is no use on the short hose on the SD4 engine - the pressure under load actually makes that pipe go flat during real driving terms, and the duck tape cannot cope with it. It's ok as a get me home solution, but no use as a cheap alternative.

As pointed out above, there is no point in doing half the job and you will kick yourself when the lower hose goes the same way. Spend £100 (or less) at Duckworths and buy the whole pipe and diaphragm...job done!

(LR006429 is the part that you will require)

Well just to conclude this post...……..

I think I was fortunate in that the split was very easy to spot and fairly accessible at the front of the short top hose and was only about 15mm long

A dollop of superglue gel a couple of turns of duck tape and half a dozen cable ties got me the 200 miles (keeping engine revs below 2000) home from Wales and is still holding up remarkably well. New part from Duckworths waiting for me and have booked it in to local Indy later this week

The great thing about this forum, is that as soon as I heard the noise I knew exactly what the problem was, so thank you to all previous posters regarding this issue

Steve

I used duct tape with a covering made from a strip of 2l bottle held round pipe with tie wraps.
Held ok till could replace pipe properly.

I replaced all pipes and intercooler when I had to take it off to replace damaged air con condenser. Andy
