Keyfob newly rejected

Hi, please forgive the thread, I know there are at least 5 pages of fob Q&A but I can't find my particular problem. I have 2 fobs 1 of which has never opened or closed the car but has no problem starting it (I keep this as my spare and meant to have it refurbed). The other has always worked fine both locking and starting the car but is now being spat out every time I try docking it. The other still docks correctly and starts the car! In short, I now have to lock/unlock the car with one fob and start it with the other (this one will not charge or lock/unlock) I know this is unsustainable as eventually the charge will run out in the one which will not dock. I have tried the battery removal/hard reset to no avail, anyone have any ideas?
Regards
Dave.

Please fill in the "My Freelander" part of your profile, it will show under your name the FL2 model, which will help someone help you. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)

(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

Check in FL2 Manual, but I think that the engine start depends on a 'near field' transponder via the key holder and is independent of Fob battery.

The Door Locking via 'RF' receiver (in roof lining) and is dependant on Fob battery.
Key fobs need to be introduced to car.

There are a series of DTC codes that will tell you what the car is seeing (and rejecting) as you try to use the fobs.

From Manual
If the remote handset rolling code loses synchronization with the CJB, the remote handset functions will not operate. Synchronization between the remote handset and CJB is restored by starting the engine with the affected remote handset, and allowing the engine to run for a minimum of 6 minutes.

Each remote handset features a unique identification code that is programmed within the integral transponder. The RF signal produced by the remote handset contains the unique identification code and also a rolling code. During vehicle production, the unique identification codes of the valid remote handsets are programmed into the CJB, and the rolling codes are also synchronized with the CJB.

Thanks guys, I thought it may be to do with the transponder but just wondered if there were any obvious tricks I could try before heading off to the auto locksmith. The one you link to looks great but unfortunately I can’t send either key away as I need both, one to open and one to start! Guess it’s today’s job to find someone near to Birmingham, will let you all know how I get on.

can you not unlock it using the physical key contained in the key fob that starts the car?

then send the one away that doesn't start it for a refurb ?

Ok, update one key was completely dead in the battery department and the shell wasn't in the best condition due to being previously opened. The other had an iffy battery and a fault on the circuit relating to the transponder. Bothe keys repaired and in new cases worked out at £120 which although on the expensive side means that I got two working keys sorted in less than an hour with 12 month warranty so all good, thanks for your input guys, take care.

Regards
Dave.

Hi Dave,

Where did you get your fobs repaired? I am in the Birmingham area and have 1 fob that even with a new battery still won’t unlock or start the car so I’m anxious to get it fixed in case I have any issues with my good fob!

Thanks

Ben
