Witter Tow Bar Detachable Flange

Hi all

Has anyone out there got a witter detachable bar with a Witter detachable Neck ZQFE2037 as supplied by PF Jones tow bars Manchester.

I think I have the older version that came with the bar a WITTER R41AQF Detachable Flange Neck Tow Bar and it has no bends in it and is straight and as a result the caravan is very very nose down its 175mm lower at the front than the rear.

I have measured the height on the car when solo and its 420mm to the top of the ball, but when I put the van on it drops even more.

I was wondering if any one out there has the later version of the bar a Witter detachable Neck ZQFE2037 and could measure to the top of the ball. I am on 17 inch wheels, I dont want to pay out £140 for the new neck if it makes noor very little difference.

I have tried to upload pictures of my bar and the bar from PF JONES
THANKS

Yes, the car receiver looks same as yours, except I have 13 pin socket. Andy

Glad my pic came in handy. I suppose you could add a vertical plate to offset the ball higher up. Would need to be a heavy duty plate though. You could maybe ask at a towing specialist.

Does it matter if the caravan is a bit nose down ? At least you have less chance of catching the corner when off-roading on uneven sites Very Happy Jules

Is that not illegal unless the bar has been tested and approved with the plate?. I also notice that the Witter bar has a 120KG limit and the FL2 has a max limit of 220Kg nose weight at 60mph (100kph) one assumes the LR bar is not the same as the Witter
With 100KG nose weight I barely achieved a drop of 20mm I am on 19" wheels but that is immaterial as the wheel diameter increases the tyre wall height decreases leaving the overall diameter is the same.
Most caravans with the Alko chassis are limited to 100Kgs max load at the hitch my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

The EC Directive 94/20/EC (The standard that all towbars are designed to) states that the tow ball height should be between 350 and 420mm from the ground with the vehicle in a 'laden' state.

In addition drop plates are, at best, questionable and a “lift plate” is an absolute NO!

+1 with Bob as above.

DROP plate should NEVER be used to lift towball. Only to lower. Andy
