Australia 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Sumatra Black
New Freelander 2 Owner from Australia.

Hi,
A few days ago I became a Freelander 2 owner. I've had plenty of british cars, bu this is my first Landie.

It's a 2007 TD4 GS Manual that was privately imported from the UK to Australia in 2012. The GS model was never sold here and I don't think you could buy a manual FL2 in Aus until the facelift in 2011 or thereabouts.

I was looking for a TD5 Discovery manual when I accidentally found this. I'd never really considered one before, but I read the online reports and I was impressed. This one being Diesel, manual, cloth seats, it suited me exactly. I've only had it for a few days but I'm thrilled with it.

I seem to attract oddball import cars. Both our Minis are UK personal imports and I've owned a few JDM spec imports over the years.

First jobs on the Freelander are to install a bluetooth phone kit (ordered) and fit a towbar. I'm also considering the merits of an ECB bullbar as roo strikes are pretty common where I live. Surprised

Cheers,
Brett.

Yes, with 245/65R17 tyres. When the noisy Wranglers wear out I'll fit some Yokohama Geolandar AT/S. My wife's R51 Pathfinder has been running them for a few years and they are very good.

Maybe the noisy Wranglers is actually the diff bearing starting to go. I was convinced it was tyre noise, now I'm not so sure. Shocked Brett Nicholson

Welcome to the Forum - nice clean looking car Thumbs Up
You're probably right about the tyres causing the noise - had the same wheels etc on mine - upgraded to Evoque 18's with Pirellis - what a difference.

Small update. Other than a failed oxy sensor, ($100 AU and two hours to change) my FL2 has been trouble free.

I had the ten year service done by an independent specialist for $2500. Land Rover wanted $3,500! (AUD)

The noisy Wranglers were replaced with Falken AT3W. These are much quieter. Although I think I now hear the dreaded diff rumbles starting. The car will turn over 150,000 miles in the next few days. (Had 110,000 miles when I bought it.)

I bought my FL2 a friend this weekend. A 1973 Series 3, an also ex-UK car. They seem to find me. (Yes, I know my FL2 needs a wash.)

Hi mate.

I'm currently in the UK and thinking of shipping my HSE Lux back to Oz with me - hopefully later this year.

Have you come up with any issues with yours being an Import?

And do you pay more insurance because of it?

I'm on the fence with bringing mine over.

Cheers.

I've had no issues with it being an Import at all.

The previous owner had to pay $500 fee for an engineers certificate and a compliance plate. That basically certifies it meets Australian standards. Then normal registration from there. No annual RWC (MOT) in most states of Australia.

I have mine insured with Shannons, a specialist enthusiast insurer, and it costs no more than a non-Import. Some of the big name insurers are reluctant to insure imports for agreed value.

Have a look on Carsales.com.au and decide if you would prefer to sell and then buy one here.

A mate has a business doing car imports/exports. The UK arm is here:

What did a 10 year service involve?
