intermittent radio and Nav - help?

Hi All
my first time posting!
Im a proud owner of a Freelander 2 XS SD4 AUTO 2011 - love my car but it is of course not without its issues! Cool

The most recent one is the radio/phone/nav entire unit/system, will randomly turn its self off, then immediately turn back on for about 5 seconds then turn its self off for a few seconds, then back on for about 5 seconds and off and so on....

This happened for the first time when i first started my engine 2 days ago, however ever since i could be 15 minuets into a journey where it is working perfectly then suddenly it starts playing up (switching on and off and on and off and on and off... .you get the idea Rolling Eyes ) and wont fix itself again until i have turned the engine off and left it for a while. (i/e go into work for a few hours or go shopping etc)

I have added some photos below - although not sure how much help they will be - as you can see although the Nav and radio both go off the time and back light on the radio stay on.

When this happened it also cleared the list of paired phones - like it completely re-set.

If anyone else has had this and knows how to fix it or what could be causing the problem or if anyone can give any advice on where a potential problem could be it would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

I did have a problem in the past where my Navigation and radio would turn off randomly (not very often)

I haven't had the failure in a long time.

To be completely honest I am not sure what fixed the problem.

Items that I changed that likely had a positive effect

- New battery (Nav system is very sensitive to Voltage)

- Replaced relays and fuses (the fuses get corroded and relays are mechanical parts and they wear out)

And old link for reference

Another possible problem is the wire harness connectors by the passengers feet

I need to check the wiring diagram to see if the Nav gets it power at these connections

this link shows the connection that come loose

Let us know what you find out

Thanks

Paul

The phone part has now gone completely - when I push the phone button it doesn't work but the radio and nav have both stopped playing up so I'm assuming Its the bluetooth module has finally given up!

Hi, Appreciate that this is an old post, was there an outcome to this problem? I have been having exactly the same symptoms and now my bluetooth has packed up. Was wondering if it is a wiring issue or if I should replace the bluetooth module.

I gave up on my Bluetooth and I just bypassed the fiberoptic signal using a loop back and disconnected the electrical connector.

Good luck

I had precisely the same problem a while back. The screen would keep restarting and then the phone button stopped working too.
I replaced the Bluetooth module and all has been fine since

When the Bluetooth module failed the Radio and Navigation Screen kept turning off and back on every 30 seconds (approximately). I will admit that this has happened occasionally in the past but the reset would bring the Bluetooth back to life. This time it kept resetting every 30 seconds until I bypassed the Bluetooth Module and disconnected it.

For me the Risk/Benefit analysis dictated that I remove (bypass) the Bluetooth.

However getting a new module should have worked as well.

The choice is yours.

Good luck

Paul
