New Dash Cam

Took some tips from SD4x4 in this thread (without chopping up a case for a mini cam) https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic23867.html?highlight=mobius

Mobius camera - nice and small, turns on and off automatically with turning ignition on, and loops recording. So just a install and forget until you want to pull some video off it. Oh, and cheap!

For less than $2 got a mini mount:

Drilled a hole in the mirror back plastic and here we go:

Just need to run power up into roof liner and will be all set.

When I wired mine, I was able to lose the wire behind the roof lining (without removing it). Then down the A pillar again without removing it and through the air vent, this I had to remove, to get the wiring/plug behind the dash to pick up 12V.

Good Luck

.

Cheers, was hoping i could find some ignition on power in the roof liner, but taking down to dash or the fuse box probably would be a lot less faffing. I'll aim for that!

just fitted my dash cam hard wired into F5 in the passenger foot well fuse box. easy to run under the roof lining. took the A pillar off (1 screw under the airbag plate and pop off the panel with no risk to airbag) then tucked down the rubber door seal under the dash to the fuse box.... 30 mins job.

The airbag logo on all the pillars pops out & there is a torx screw behind to hold the panel on. Don't be worried about the airbag behind, it is all out the way & it's all touch as nails.

According to the instructions a permanent feed and a switched feed is all that's required and set the dash cam to parking mode ?

Mark

Does on my pre facelift 2012. Once the key is out the slot it cuts power. The next base cam then stays on for a couple of minutes configurable by me working on internal battery

@Grue,
The dimming mirror is a switched live with nothing else on the circuit.

Don't know where but somewhere on the forum I've put a pic of a circuit board which was 12v in and a usb out, that I used to power mine.

Thanks DEG5Y, funnily enough came across that post last night. Violet = live. Black/Yellow = ground. Might give that a go with a chopped USB cable extention first.

Well just be aware that the car is obviously 12v where as a usb is 5v so you wouldn't be able to connect a usb cable directly to the car wiring as the feed through the cable could then damage the camera.

hence why they come with a cigarette lighter plug in and why the hard wire kits come with an inline unit to take the power down
