On an active roundabout, we need to be ready to go but prepared to stop,
now I could not see to the right that far so I assume it was clear,
that then leaves the question is your exit clear? ie any hazards and
this would include other vulnerable people near to or in your chosen exit,
I will say the cyclist does look at first like he's on the pavement,
now that should have raised your awareness to a possible situation,...in theory.
BUT in the real world we all get distracted, tired or even blase to any situation.
WOULD I or any other driver have handled it any better can't say, wasn't there,

But the end result is he survived, your license/insurance is safe and your have
learnt a useful lesson, which is a big plus

Can’t say much fairer than that Dave. I’d just add as said earlier that I was looking right at a car approaching that at first wasn’t indicating and when I looked ahead and saw all was clear as the Merc left the roundabout, I saw nothing else at all.

Given the lack of high visibility clothing on the cyclist, the fact you would not expect one to be coming head on and his position close to the lamp post as I was looking towards the Merc, he certainly had stealth on his side.
