2012 sd4 low key battery warning

First post here, long term d2 and d3 owner but wife has just bought a 2012 freelander and has an issue with the smart keys.
We are getting the low key battery error, so I replaced the batteries in both keys, but still sometimes the error occurs. Not always however. I’ve tried pressing the lock and unlock buttons twice as I’ve read to “re sync” the keys but still no joy.
Also I’ve tried each key on numerous occasions. Sometimes one triggers the error, sometimes the other, I can’t seem to pin point it to just one key.
Usually it just the error and the car will start, but on the odd occasion the starter button doesn’t do anything, the only way I found to start is to press the unlock button on one of the keys again and it seems to kick start the key into life.

We are going to try some more batteries as the ones we had were cheap and a bit old, even though they were sealed and new, but if that doesn’t work, any ideas?

I’ve just agreed a sale of one LR to get away from these gremlins , and then She brings another one home without telling me Rolling with laughter

What batteries are you using they should be CR2032 I've changed mine on my 2014 model and had no problems. (Famous last words)

I got a low battery warning at 1.497 volts. Make sure the new battery actually is new with a long use by date. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Yes they were 2032. But like I said, no name and had been sat in the packet in th drawer a while. Got some new Panasonic’s on the way.

Because the batteries are really easy to change and are readily available in most civilised countries. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

We are getting the low key battery error,

When was the last time you went for a long drive? The batteries probably need a good charge. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Probably because it is not a rechargeable type key it has a replaceable battery.
