United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Firenze Red

I contacted Pentland Land Rover in Elgin this morning as my 61 plate sd4 auto is due to have cambelt changed. They quoted me a jaw dropping £588 and claimed that was after discount 🤔🤔

Asked about the fixed price and guy claimed he knew nothing about it. Don't think I'll be going there then!! Life's too short, enjoy yourself

To be honest, for main dealer that's not a bad price. Just been quoted a 'special price' on a 12plate 2.0 tdi A4 Avant at main dealer for £595....

The fixed prices only apply to participating dealers

But £588 is rather excessive Laughing

Took it into another garage today who told me that the sd4 has a chain that doesn't need replacing. Now totally confused, are they correct? Life's too short, enjoy yourself

Just so you know, there are both belt & chain cam drives in the Freely TD4 engine.

The Belt is the one that drives the water pump etc and the water pump is usually changed at the same time as the belt whilst it is apart, the chain is internal and as far as I am aware has no change program.

Take a look in the book for service schedules, it shows mileage for belt change but from memory I think it's about 120,000  MY2014 SD4 XS

Scrimple IS correct when he says that the Freelander engine has both belt and chain drive. The 2 camshafts are linked by a short chain drive and is does not have a replacement service interval like the timing belt does. Whistle

The belt change is 7 years. This was reduced by Land Rover from 10 years and 150,000 miles. It has never been 120,000 miles and introducing a non servicing item to the discussion adds nothing of value. The belt drives the cam shaft. Arrow FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

So what drives the 2nd camshaft. Would it be a non servicing item like a timing chain perhaps?
