Square Rubber Thing On Steering Wheel Surround

A while ago when I had the dreaded steering locked message and the car wouldn’t start all the steering column got a good banging about and in the process this rubber thing got knocked off. I put it in glove box and promptly forgot about it. Just been cleaning the car out and found it and couldn’t be bothered to find some double sided tape to stick it back on but have discovered there’s a magnet in it,so the question is what the hell is it and should it go back on ? It’s been rattling around in the glove box for months now.

Had something like that stuck to the dash of an old Clio I bought as a runaround a few years ago. I reckoned it was some kind of mobile phone holder as it had a magnet inside it. It got consigned to the bin!. Don`t think it`s a Freelander part!

It does resemble a magnetic phone holder sold for many cars.

But I have a question --- whilst looking around my own FL's steering wheel shroud, I noticed a keyway let into it on its underside, and some type of clip further down the underside of the shroud. What is it? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

No comment on those scumbags. I have never advocated civil disorder in my life, however they have, between them, all but guaranteed that chain of events will happen in the not too distant. And frankly, they deserve it....every treacherous one of them.
