Storage

Have had my Freely for a couple of weeks, and until now I hadn't realised that tools were needed to change a headlight bulb (haven't had one go just been reading the handbook).

So I'm now thinking I ought to get a small toolkit so I've got it to hand in case a bulb does go etc.

Now the question is where to keep it in the car. I don't really want it floating around in the boot or the glovebox. I was thinking of stashing it under the passengers seat.

Then I got to wondering -I've not looked, but is there room under the rear seats? I know the seat base folds forwards but I don't know if there is any space under there that can be used for storing smallish items.

I would go and look but am sat at work now so thought it easier to ask you lot! Very Happy

Peter

Why not simply put it in the booth? Or where the spare tyre is stored, if there's enough space.

Even it it rattled, you could wind it into some cloth which in itself is probably handy to have always with you.

Good thinking guys - I've not really looked under the boot floor (other than to quickly check that the spare was present and in good order).

I'll have a peek later and see what sort of space there is.

Other things to consider putting in the spare wheel for the day when you have to change a tyre:-
Hi vis vest (to wrap the kit in to stop it rattling)
Pair of leather riggers gloves or a pack of B&Q rubber/latex gloves
Electric tyre pump
First aid kit
Disposable paper boilersuit.

If you roll them carefully you will find that they will fit easily into the centre of a wheel and you won't get any rattles. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Can’t help feeling that if LR had designed the spare wheel to be mounted in the boot the opposite side up to it is, that there would be loads of room for storing bit and things Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Yep I use the space around the spare (even with a full size spare theres plenty of space) and wrap tools in cloth to prevent any rattles.

To change a headlamp bulb all you need is a 10mm spanner Thumbs Up

Most brands do it this way becouse they do not line the bottom. It would probably damage the rimms becouse it would be iron on iron.

Then agian, why don't the make a little extra box to put stuff next to the tyre-hole

On a true alloy? Or is a steal one?

I just looked. My BMW 320d doesn't have a spare wheel! But there's a nice bit of extra storage space though.

My 3-series had a steel “get-you-home” similar to what I have in the Freely. It would also seem uneconomical to have 2 spare alloys, one for winter 16” and one for summer 18”. During the last 10-years of motoring I have used the (BMW) spare just once. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

My dealer gave me a full 17" spare at no cost, so I didn't argue about it Very Happy

I can switch around an extra tyre so they will last longer. Plan to do that every 3000 miles.

I keep a number of items in the spaces beside the spare wheel -

jump leads
tow rope
spare bulbs
warning triangles (2 of - as I tow a...... CARAVAN)
spare re-usable shopping bags
small tool kit

Never had a problem with noises cos everything snugly fitted into the gpas between the tyre rubber and the moulded floor pan.
